Fool's Faces

Fool's Faces

A Poem by Geralyn Miller

My Grandmother

was a very wise woman.

born in 1906,

the year of the Firehorse;

she was a strong and independent woman

back when it was scandalous

for a woman to choose her own path.

She was fascinated by computers,

and lived to see

the beginnings of the internet.

She often said of the internet:

"Mark my words,

one day every jackass on Earth

will find a way to get five minutes

just five minutes,

of imaginary fame."

I know, if she saw

what passes as "entertainment"

on some internet sites,

she would say:

:fool's names, like fool's faces;

are often found

in public places."

Grandma would be correct.
