Shadow of the Past

Shadow of the Past

A Poem by Geralyn Miller
"

The Viet Nam War Memorial

"

There's a place

I've never been,

that haunts my dreams.

A long black shadow

that terrifies me.

I know it is simple,

respectful and peaceful;

a place of sweet release,

catharsis

and yesterday's pain

finally acknowledged

so healing can begin.

I guess I can't let go,

he is still not home,

still missing in action;

though I know he is dead.

it is something very haunting indeed, even after the years have passed. i like the structure of the poem, letting the reader know, and what it means to the writer. a personal narrative. thanks, raining
