The Ugly Side

The Ugly Side

A Poem by Geralyn Miller

In the guise of love

we tear each other

to ragged pieces.

Hurt, hit, beat,

batter, demean,

rape, torture,

scream, loathe,

agonize, deny,

destroy, detest.

These we do

to the ones we love.

God help us.

Author's Note

Geralyn Miller
Unfortunately, inspired by a late night visit to Wal Mart; saw a father with a little boy about three years old with quite a cold, very stuffed up, nothing to wipe his nose on; and "daddy" berated this child as he walked around the floor with the child in the grocery cart seat and bought his beer and steaks and wine coolers. Not even a box of tissues for the child, just cruel words no child should hear.

A sadly common occurrence.

Oh I know that so well

This is saddening with reading your explanation...and would be even without but could be taken in as describing any kind of relationship. Father & son, wife & husband, mother & daughter, etc...love all the strong, hard hitting words.

humanity is lacking in the humanE department these callous days~ tragedy upon tragedy~ the innocent strung up in a repetitive cycle~ on and on the wheel of devastation spins~
