A Poem by Geralyn Miller

The government of China

is unhappy today.

Despite their attempt

to block his nomination;

today,

the Nobel Prize Committee

awarded the Peace Prize

to Liu Xiaobo,

Chinese poet and dissident.

It is doubtful Liu Xiaobo

knows of his award;

he is in a Chinese prison,

serving twelve years

for his opposition

to government tyranny.

The Chinese government

is trying to stop

the people of China

learning of this Nobel Prize.

They have blocked

the CNN signal into China

 and are trying to shut down internet access.

Each of us must shout loudly;

for Liu Xiaobo is one of us,

a fellow poet and writer.

Really interesting situation when coupled with the letter recently written by the Chinese elders... nice piece. I couldn't feel a flow, but this seemed more structured prose telling of a situation than a poem to me.

Overall, powerful. Nice job. :)

Today is Sunday-10 October2010. Liu Xiaobo's wife was allowed to visit him in prison to tell him of the award. Then they put his wife under house arrest; she was able to do some tweeting to let people know.

The great men may be quiet in voice. But thanks to people like you. You keep him alive in memory. I will research him and learn more about him. Sometime when government block voices. It make the louder and stronger. Thank you for the infor.

The title caught my imagination.. like Liu Xiaobo... defiant and courageous.. May all the world hear his voice and speak freedom until every nation knows the what FREE really means.. Beautiful, powerful expression here.

SHOUTING! right along with you~ human rights is much too often taken for granted and in actuality does not often exist for human beings as more than an ideal fabrication by governments to keep the people sheeple happily and dumbly bleating in the metal fields~
