Empty Stares

Empty Stares

A Poem by Dillon "Gerald" Steele

I could tell the minute I got in the door

And dropped my bag,

I wasn't staying

I saw her there

With him

Underneath the covers

Two lovers

Looking at me

The third wheel

When our eyes met

I was set

On being the better man

And so I walked out the door with a plan

She chased me begging me to stay

Hoping there were words she could say

But there was no way

That I could delay

Not even for one more day

I was gone

Out the door

Nothing hurt more

Than when my heart sank to the floor

Heart open blood began to poor

Along with the thoughts

And my stomach all in knots

Felt like 9 shots

To the face

What a disgrace

That I had this fate

Sitting in this empty room

Nothing to do but sit in gloom

The keepers of my soul

Are coming to get me

And they will be

Happier to see

You with him

Than you and me,

His face holding a grin

That will live on in my head

Even when Im dead.

I could feel the sadness and the disappointment in the poem. I agree. Somethings we can never forget. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
