Child Inside

Child Inside

A Poem by Georgina Cross

I am not merciful,
Stubborn confusing.
A complex mystery.
It is me.

The door is open,
just a little.
Ajar.
An entrance to my heart,
A pathway to the past.

The door is slammed,
a child locked inside
protecting a pure heart.
Fear. Dismay. Expectation.
Broken.

Age grows upon her,
Mistakes, bad choices.
Suffocation.
Identification.
But not all, lost
is Lost.

Self reliance.
Self defiance.
My child will be free.
Swinging the door,
running the hills.
She will soon become me.

Hi, Georgie!
It is Richard, welcoming you to the site and conducting my first review for your poetry, and such a powerfully-truthful and honest poem it is to start with … ribbons of life and learning flowing throughout.
As newborns, it is generally accepted that we arrive with little more than our genetic programming … as life progresses, we observe, learn, and begin to grow in mentality and conditioning from whatever we are associated, forming the basic foundation of personality; especially, during our first few years.
As life progresses, we begin to develop the capacity to think, question, and feel life and emotion in a deeper, more meaningful sense, developing inner sensitivities in the ways outside influences affect us, and so forth — as we grow into adulthood … most of it, though beneficial, is often confusing and detrimental to the manner in which we perceive ourselves and the world around us: Each and every incidence effecting the being we become.
These are some of the thoughts and feelings prompted and inspired by your skilled pen, those aspects of mental and spiritual meanderings the power of excellent poetry has over its readers.
Particularly, I am lifted into the moment with your final verse, and surely by the marvelous mind and imagination you've shared with us, here upon your page.

Thank you so very much, Georgie, and again, "Welcome!" I sincerely hope you'll make this site your home … smiles to you ⁓ Richard

Our best days are when we know freedom.
"Self reliance.
Self defiance.
My child will be free.
Swinging the door,
running the hills.
She will soon become me. "
The above lines could stand alone. Good to escape and test our world. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

This is a very truthful poem with impactful word choices. It felt to me to be very hopeful.

I chose this one first. I look forward to reading more. Your profile cites your age, but your words reveal a wisdom of one much older. How astutely you declare "...not all, lost, is Lost". Beautiful form; brave and honest treatment of sensitive subject matter. Your resounding message of the will to hope, also implies the hope to Will...whatever outcome you desire. Thanks for sharing.

A commendable piece of poetry, Georgina. It is very engaging and your comparisons are excellent. You have explained very beautifully how one changes as one grows up. Though maturity and better understanding are attained but stress, envy and other such things overpower the angel inside. Good job.

Dear, Georgie this is such a thought provoking write, you were telling the mystery of a child which is hidden inside you... This is a very different kind of poetry, I loved your word choices and the thought you have left here for the reader to think.... It reflected as an inner story to me.... And a poet like Richard has analysed your poem then I don't think I have much to say other than giving you a THUMBS UP!!!

As I'm in the process of learning poetry I can feel assured that I have plenty of things to learn from you.... I will make sure to read all your poems whenever you post them..... I'm truly inspired by your work....

i like the idea of the child inside...the one we left when we lost our innocence or got hurt the first time, the one we wish we could get back...but it is a battle to get back that reckless abandon we once had.

this is super...you really make us think...except for one thing i would leave out...the description...let the reader read as he or she will...this is a deep, thoughtful poem which will allow our minds to roam.

the child inside, the faith inside - we gotta look after our innocence, if we want to stay young and ageless, not old and still impossible and hopeless - nice write, georgie :)
