The Introduction

You bring out the best in me

The beautiful figure strutted up the cold street, clothed in a long black dress, leaving little to the imagination. The street lamps flickered at the late hour and a group men stood in front of her, blocking her path.
"Sweet heart!" one of them slurred, "Come party with us tonight!"
The others then whistled and shouted in agreement, "come on darling."
"I do not have time for this, please move." She whispered hiding her face behind her dark red hair.
"What was that sweetie? You wanna come back to my place? Sure!" The man replied and he reached to grab her arm.
"Enough!" came a booming voice, from up the street and a well dressed man swaggered towards them, "I must ask you leave my friend alone."
"Ha! Mr. Tough guy huh? What are you gunna do? You don't scare us." sneered the man.
"That may be true, at the moment," he replied, "but you should." The man then brushed his hat off his head and flicked his black hair out of his eyes.
Suddenly the group staggered backwards and murmurs of confusion and fear flickered across their faces.
The lady smiled kindly and leaned over the man, who had terrorised her,'s shoulder, "This is where you run." She whispered darkly.
"Run!" The man yelled and tripping over themselves, the group sprinted across the road and disappearing into the darkness, leaving the man with the glowing red eyes and the lady, standing under the flickering street light.
"I can handle myself against a few mortal men you know Haides." She too flicking her hair out of her face, to reveal her own set of sparkling scarlet eyes.
"I know," he smiled in return, "but I heard the bawling from the roof tops and I just couldn't help myself." He paused and looked up at her. "And when I recognised that it was you, I thought I would lend a hand. Cora." He said calmly tilting a head into a bow.
"I am truly flattered." She replied.
"Shall we continue on together then? You are of course going aren't you?" His voice thinly lined with concern, but still offering out his arm.
"I'm not stupid," She replied linking her arm in his, "No dark creature summoned wouldn't attend, in fear for their life, or whatever we call this."
Haides smiled and placed his hat back onto his head, "shall we fly?"
"Of course, we are both now running late now."
The pair barely jumped but more straighten out and flew up into the air and walked along, flying around the buildings towards the centre of Paris.
Their feet landed on the cobble stone in an alleyway between two building and Cora took several quick steps from the impact and  her heels echoed around the walls.
"Lady Cora, You ought to be more careful when landing," came a dark voice from the shadows, "it's been a while obviously."
" Well Volos, you of all people should know flying was never one of my strong suites." She said straightening up and flicking the non-existent creases out of her dress.
"Very true."
"Are we the last?" Haides said walking towards the brick wall at the end of the alleyway.
"Yes you are." Volos said bowing to Haides and then following the pair into the wall.
Haides stepped out of the portal onto the mist covered floor, his suit had lengthened and was almost robe like, his hair illuminated with blue, while still being a dark black, and his completion had become waxy while still retaining his youthful look.
Cora stepped out behind him her hair glowing red, like her eyes, and now floating, flowing around her as if she has in water. "They re-decorated." She sighed, and she continued up the hallway.
"Mmm, they have," Haides said following her, "I don't like it."
"Don't let Lord Satan hear you say that." She said turning the corner.
"Don't let me hear what?" Came a dark voice and although it wouldn't seem possible,  made the colour drained from Haides face.
"Nothing my Lord." Haides said and he bowed down onto one knee.
A tall dark figure immerged from the shadows, "I know you're lying Haides but I really do not care at the moment, let us continue on." Haides then rose and continued around the corner, walking well behind Satan.
They entered a large room with an extravagant table  placed in the middle under a great crystal chandler which hung from the ceiling, the ceiling itself bewitched to look like the night sky. Haides then quickly took his seat, second from the right of Satan himself. "Lucifer." Haides nodded, as he sat down next to the elf like man who resided next to him.
"Haides, it has been so long," replied Lucifer, who sat, staring into the empty space in front of him with his long purple hair streaking down his face and back.
Satan cleared his throat and the inaudible murmurs that silently echoed throughout the room evaporated, "Let us begin." He said, his dark voice clawing into the ears of every creature within the room.
"How did I get stuck in the mortal world with you two?" Glared Lucifer as he followed Haides out the portal.
"It has been several decades since you left The Castle." Cora said following the pair.
"Not long enough." Lucifer replied.
"Have you even flown in the past millennium?" Haides asked.
"A couple times in my satanic form of course, but not in mortal form."
"I didn't think so." Smiled Cora.
"Cora."
"Yes Lucifer."
"You are replaceable, ridicule me again and you will be replaced."
A sour look flooded Cora's face, "I'll be off then." She spat, "Have fun in the mortal world,  especially blending in." She said, flicking her hair she turned the corner and disappeared into the streets.
"You shouldn't aggravate her." Haides said leaning against the wall with a cigarette between his fingers.
"Why not? She drives me mad and I cannot wait for the day that her tongue slips in front of The Lord and her head rolls onto the floor," he hissed.
A smirk twisted across Haides face and he brought the cigarette up to his lips "She'll be your biggest ally in this world." He said and a large cloud of smoke floated around him. "Any way, her tounge'll never slip in front of our Lord."
"Why is that?"
"She's still bound to this world Lucifer. She'll die of old age before she slips up again."
A small smile etched its way onto Lucifer's face as he imagined what Haides had said, "What year is it any way?"
"1802" Haides said bringing the cigarette up to his mouth again.
"Ugh, what a drag. The wars don't happen for another 150 or so, years."
"Don't worry, we have Napoleon and there is that siege later on."
"Of course, it's nothing like the bloodshed of a good 'World War' though."
"You can say that again."
The two men stood in the alleyway in silence for several minutes before Lucifer's scream pierced the air and everybody that herd it felt sickened at the horrible pain that would cause such a shriek. Lucifers' body morphed and his limbs and features became more human like, his hair darken to a near black while shortening so that it just brushed his shoulders, and his torn robe became a suit much like Haides'.
Lucifer drew a sharp breath and dug in nails into the cobblestone that sat beneath his hands.
"Cigarette?" Haides said offering the silver container in his coat pocket to Lucifer, who kneeled on all fours his whole body tensed and screaming out.
"Yep." He wheezed out, and he pushed himself backward so that he fell against the wall, grabbing a cigarette as he did so.
"You know I think I still profere your hair blonde." Haides said leaning back against the wall and once again bringing the cigarette up to his mouth, "It's definitely been a while for you then, I'm honestly surprised your transformation took that long."
"Yeah well, I'm not a fan of the mortals like you." He murmured bring the cigarette to his lips where it puffed into life.
"Yeah, it's quite sickening to think about personally."
"I do not blame you friend." He said looking up at Haides, through his hair.
A thin tall man gave a quick knock on the wooden door then entered the study, "Lady Cora."
"Yes Jonathan." She said peering up over her book.
"There is a young man at the door to see you."
"Of course, I shall be down in a minute."
"Very well," The butler said flashing a smile, before retreating out of the room.
"I bet it's Haides or Lucifer." She said to herself as she pushed herself off the large lounge chair and smoothed out her blue velvet dress.
She gracefully walked down the stair case, as she entered the foyer of her town house. "Hello Lucifer." She said as she recognised the purple tinge in the hair of the man with his back to her. "Thank you Jonathan, please bring us some tea to my study." She smiled kindly to her butler.
"Of course, Ma'am," Jonathan said exiting the room.
"Nice place." Smiled Lucifer kindly as he turned around to look at Cora.
"Thank you," She smiled in return, "You neaten up quite nicely yourself."
Lucifer forced another grin onto his face, "shall we go to your study then?"
"Of course." She said, and lead the way back up the stairs.
Lucifer stood by the window looking out onto the street and Cora had resumed her spot in the large chair.
"Have you seen the girl yourself?" Lucifer asked.
"No, but I've asked around about her,"
"What do people say?"
"She has the signs of abilities, but of course there is no way of knowing until she comes of age or unless we track down her father."
Lucifer opened his mouth but a quick rap on the door made him close it again, "My Lady, You're tea." Jonathan said placing a pot of tea, cream, sugar and two cups on a tray down onto a small table in the middle of the room.
"Please do continue, Lucifer."
"But, He's..."
"He's not human if you were about to call him a mortal." Cora said sipping on a cup of tea.
"Then what is he?" He replied astonished looking at the butler.
"I'm a creature of the night." Jonathan said calmly.
"You have a demon?" Lucifer gaped,
"Yes and I'm quite fond of him."
"You have a demon, and you make him bring you tea and iron the news paper?"
Cora smiled and waved her hand dismissing Jonathan, "It's more than that he helps, keep me grounded." Cora said staring at Lucifer.
"Of course. Under your circumstances, I understand."
"Thank you."
"We got off topic." Lucifer said picking up his cup of tea and stirring several spoons of sugar in, "Tell me more about the girl and her parents."
"She goes my Marie Ariadne Baston, here but it is without doubt that she's at least half angelic or satanic."
"Her names, where did she get them?"
"Well her mother died on the steps of the church, and said Marie Ariadne Baston, they were unsure whether she was saying her own name or the name of her daughter."
"Haides checked her body then?"
"Only mortals die from giving birth to a child of power. No Angelic or Satanic would die from that."
"You still checked though?"
"Of course, three times by Jonathan, Haides and myself."
"Good."
"This is off topic, but where are you staying?"
"I'm staying in Haides' town house for the time being, I cannot remember where I put my French castle."
"Wow, you really hate being in a mortal form don't you."
"You have no idea." He said leaning against the wooden walls of the study, "shall we enquire at the church about her?"
"It'd be too obvious if we just asked about her."
"Why?"
"Michael is here."
Lucifer's body froze, "What?" he spat.
"Didn't Haides tell you?" Cora asked looking up at Lucifer and sipping at her tea.
"Obviously not." He hissed and he almost dropped his tea cup onto the table and turned clutching onto the window seal, causing a crack to tear up the side, "why is he here?"
"He's watching over the girl obviously, but don't worry, he's in his mortal form as well."
"You forget, that like us he can break out of that at any time."
"Yes, I'm aware of that, and if you break my house, I'll kill you."
"Sorry," he said in-hailing and turning around to face Cora, "does Lord Satan know?"
"Of course, we told him as soon as we confirmed that it was him." She smiled.
"So why didn't he tell me, when he assigned me to this hole!"
"Because he obviously knew that you would refuse to go."
"So what are we meant to do with that dam Archangle running around, what am I meant to do? Huh?" he said slamming his fist onto the table.
        "Grow up!" Cora said suddenly
