The Door in The Basement pt 1

A Story by George Offerman

A Man's Terror

I think I need help. I haven't believed in ghosts since I was a child. My whole adulthood has been rational and I'd even call myself a sceptic. I'm going out of my mind!
Relax, John. Breathe for a bitly and start at the beginning. Okay, things started back in July when I bought a house with my fiancée closer to the city to lessen her commute. To me, it was just another house, you know, but Victoria was determined to make this our home. Everything went well for the first few weeks too. Until I discovered the door in the basement.
It was behind a bunch of old cardboard boxes. Completely uninteresting and unlocked, it opened onto a staircase leading down into the dark. My stupid arse was excited. Extra basement! Perhaps for storage or man-cave purposes. Grabbing a torch, I went down and discovered a labyrinth of tunnels, leading well beyond the edges of our property.
That's when the strange occurrences began. I woke from a dead sleep one night, feeling something trying to choke me. I'm constantly hearing static like an out of tune radio coming from the next room. Things have fallen from sturdy shelves. Apparitions have appeared at night. The house is haunted and it's all the fault of whatever's behind that door. I even hear animal growls from behind it sometimes.
Victoria and I are thinking of checking into a hotel. What do we do?
