“Safe”- a sometimes elusive or unattainable state. We seek it like the Holy Grail. We try to cushion ourselves, bolster ourselves, build fortresses around ourselves to achieve it. But there is no “safe” to be found in mortal ‘things’. George your brilliant poem speaks to its nature and its gift. “Safe is a feeling”- yes. The serene imagery of the “night of seeker feeling safe in solitude” is palpable and comforting here. ‘His eye is on the sparrow’ and we are safe in His eternal love. Excellent write my friend.

I enjoyed the read. To quote Robin Williams, "Reality...what a concept." I recall a molecular physicist who wore over-sized shoes stuffed with newspaper to prevent himself from falling through the laboratory floor because his scientific research proved to him that nothing was as solid as it seemed. The fourth line with the repetitive "like" seemed confusing to me. Does it mean like-minded and if so whose? Who are the other minds "stalked by pain" ? As for the feeling of "safety", I think it's probably overrated. Hurtling through space at over a quarter million miles an hour on a blue marble is not conducive to that sort of feeling in me. But there's no need to be tormented by pain or fear once we realize the insignificance of our existence. Pain and fear are only indicators that we are still alive and able to feel or care. And as for the "safety of solitude" I think that would be an illusion because we are no more safe alone than with our friends and family and few if any would sacrifice one for the other. "Faith is like a ship and the world is like a great ocean. If we allow too much water to come aboard, we sink and perish. But if we never set our vessel upon that sea then our faith becomes useless...because that is what ships are made for."
