I often think of this dark night of the soul also George, with all its passion, despair, betrayal...a cruel plan conceived for this Pascal Lamb indeed. Your words create the scene so eloquently and vividly. Lines and images filled with pathos, sorrow, “predatory darkness”- yes. His sorrow cleansed mankind. Kyrie Eleison, Amen....
amen, thankyou for your kind and encouraging comment Annette

I'm so pleased to hear this Annette, I'll look foward to reading the poem in due course
Your words so expertly drew me to the darkness of the night. Jesus suffered unspeakable pain by His choice of obedience.
"silence in shade
of beckoning cross..."
In response to your words I am in the shelter, of the "beckoning cross..."
Powerful. Thank you

A thoughtful and understanding poem. Your short lines and 'pauses' are very effective, suggesting the accepting apprehension that Jesus must have felt. The 'beckoning cross' has both pathos and hope. Nicely done.
And there the first tears became drops of blood falling to the earth in His prayer...it is the second time Jesus wept we are told...the first for those who had no faith at the grave of Lazarus and these in earnest prayer for the weakness of the flesh even where the spirit was willing. Wonderful write my friend.
Unspeakable suffering to come...One man to save the world through his blood...Betrayal by friend predestined... Your poem paints so well and mortally his dark, despairing melancholy at Gethsemane. This divine babe in his mother’s arms, born to die in the hands of the barbarians he forgave- “chalice of suffering”- yes. But for now, Silent Night...Kudos George & wish you wonderful Holidays!
