Winter Night

Winter Night

A Poem by George Coombs
"

Another venture out into the night

"

Winter Night

slow footfalls here where

cold penetrates as a

desperate question...

good to be alone

with the street

welcoming winter dark...

moon glows soft

above quiet houses...

street strewn with leaves

frail as creation where

seasons move in

an endless circle...

How nice it is to walk at night and be at peace with the world; to see the lights in stranger's houses and wonder who they are and what their joys and sorrows encompass; to view street lamps as Dante' did Virgil, leading us through the maze of shadows one halo at a time. I enjoyed this.

Clever use of alliteration and assonance. I also like the .......'s They make the meaning linger on. Loved this poem.

This took me to a place I haven't been since I was a child. Powerful imagery.

Thankyou Zyphri
An easy and peaceful read. I love the way you describe a serine scenario such as a dark cold street in beautiful language instead of cold and hard. Great read, cheers my friend!

Thankyou Phill, seasons greetings to you also
Yes! so good to be alone like this, to feel the quietude, let it penetrate through our whole senses... while the nature speaking, deeply, wisely magically... "the cold has a voice... it talks to me!"... simple few gentle images, yet completely Splendid! Thank You*

You are welcome :)
Beautiful, beautiful! Excellently and gracefully written poem with superb imagery and simile- “cold penetrates as a desperate question”- brilliant line. Winter comes blowing bleakly in as a bleak part of “an endless circle” of seasons. And we, as mortals, watch.... Perfect poem!
