Linked to the homeless/rough sleeping situation in my area

Two Men

outcast

fearful crouching

mind scarred

avoided

victims of

those

moaning to

police

wanting them

moved but

where to?

victims

offered on the

fire of greed

and indifference

victim of passers

by who see

in them

mirrors of their

selfishness

the men’s cold

hands grasp

coins falling

like occasional

rain �" we spoke

sharing a

time us of being human

frail as dead,

scattered leaves

church bell �" i

gave my gift then left

while they hoped and

waited……

This sad poem really resonated with me George. Such a forlorn, desolate and realistic imagery and moment between two men in very different aspects of life.
One man a 'Throw-away' of society-"outcast..fearful crouching..mind scarred..avoided, and a benefactor who reaches out to share a coin and something of himself. Two faces of humanity, two souls needing salvation- "sharing a time of us being human, frail as dead scattered leaves." Profound, eloquent and very moving poem.
