Near Ever Near

Near Ever Near

A Poem by George Coombs

Near Ever Near

near ever near

waves yearn inward

now...

dark night

no moon

stars unseen

horizon merging into

shadow,

nobody here

sea vast

like searching mind

moving in dark and shadows

time to be still

cool air is a gently touching hand

at peace

in the dark night

is a call to stillness,

open to ever present truth

peace to know

dark is not evil

dark is just

dark...

still the sea

reaching out

where a silent

watcher waits then

like the sea

moves away...

A poem that evokes a solemn silhouette, a lonely observer of the sea by night- "searching mind roving in dark and shadows" looking, waiting....beautifully set mood and eloquent words "a call to stillness open to ever present truth". But in the end, watcher, like sea,
"moves away". "Dark is not evil. Dark is just dark...and it is. Great poem.
