Prologue

A Chapter by Geo Paul

Two thousand and fourteen years after Christ had let out his first cry, the world had not changed to fulfill the reason He came. People had changed a lot in the last few centuries in their emotional as well as physical states with advancements in technology and science becoming the order of the day. Centuries ago, kings had to wait for years before their future brides arrived from distant countries, however nowadays, marriages were taking place within days of knowing each other. Yet, the human species had evolved way beyond God had imagined, but they were just animals trying to divert their problems with their advancements, when, in fact, they were all breaking down and were machines who desperately needed to fixed but refused to accept the truth like an arrogant child. The human scenario was worse than the current winter, which was all dark and unforgiving, snuffing lives out of the homeless.
Putting these thoughts aside, Luke walked to the park where he had to meet four gentlemen. Gentlemen, he chuckled to himself. These were people who controlled every event that took place in the universe and still they were powerless against forces younger than themselves. Luke had to deliver a message, one of nuclear proportions which could shake up the entire universe. He was grateful that he was counted upon as one of the very few to know about this, yet enough cursed himself for knowing such a deadly secret. The people who knew this never had enough sleep for they were always planning for this even though they knew that once this happened, perhaps even God would be powerless.
He entered the park which was filled with kids and parents. It was a glorious Sunday afternoon, but most of the parents were busy talking on their phones, not even bothered about their kids . Many among them were single parents, people who had forgotten the values of family life. They had forgotten that a family always meant compromises, and when these people could not handle losing, they wanted out of it. Pathetic situation, it was. Luke walked on, keeping his head low, lest anyone make eye contact with him. But a small child got in the way, and looked up to see who this tall man in a black suit was. He gave an innocent smile, which secretly brought Luke, a tinge of joy at seeing a young one. The infant caught his legs and guffawed, as Luke seemed to be very out of place with his business-like looks in a park. Luke gently brushed the kid aside and continued walking.
He saw three men sitting on a bench, his brothers, who appeared awkwardly out of place with their formal attire too. Many of turned to see who these people were, the men in black suits but they had more pressing issues to even remember this. One of them turned to Luke’s side and motioned him to come near. Luke walked quicker, his heart pounding as he wondered what would happen next.
When he came and stood near them, one of the men asked “Do you have some news, Luke? Because it is not usual for us to be called urgently to human habitations, and that too with an emergency tag.”
Luke replied “I am afraid that it isn’t good news, brother. I was informed of this only a while ago and I called you straight after that. It was not safe for us to talk at our place something I was told too.”
He then told to them about what he learned from his informants. Slowly he watched as these men, the invincible people who never feared anything began to drop their jaws in astonishment. Their worst fears coming true was something straight out of a horror movie except that this one was very real. “Are you sure about this information, Luke? We have been preparing for this for a long time now but still we are not confident… We still dread to face our old enemy”
“Damn it” said another. “This is going to be a lot shittier than last time. Who knows? He may be stronger than us combined this time, brothers. And if the information is true, we may never be able to defeat him. Don’t you remember what happened the last time? He was this close -” using his hand to convey his emotions “- to defeating us before that lucky break. This time, I expect that he is going to be even more furious, more deadly now that he had a few billion years to feed his vengeance.”
“I do remember what happened last time, Gabriel. But Father must have conceived some plan for this kind of situation beforehand.”
“Yes. He’s a master at doing that.” Gabriel put up a cross face “He left us without saying a word and no instructions about the future. He went to earth and never again came back. We had to manage all on our own but this task will be impossible. It’s an either do or die case, and one tough war to fight. We can only hope for the very remote possibility that He did leave something for us. Even then, it’s going to be one hell of a job to complete.”
Luke nodded. The third person then said “Well, does anyone have any idea on what we have to do? I mean we really don’t have a lot of time according to what Luke has told us here.” Turning to Luke, he asked “Did your source also tell you any way of handling this crisis?”
“Yes, Raphael. But the only way we can know what our Father has instructed is by consulting Metatron. And that is where the problem lies. We haven’t seen him since Father went away.”
Gabriel groaned “Ah, this is great. Even the solution to this problem is a big problem. Reminds me of the mathematical problems these humans toy around with.” He put his hand on his head and said “Any ideas on where to find Metatron?”
Suddenly, one of them, who looked the senior most among them, brightened up a bit “Brothers, I think that I have the solution. Father had once told me that if we were to face any problems, Fate would surely send us somebody who would help us. The Hope. He could help us
The others too brightened up on hearing this. But Gabriel retorted “Oh yeah? I don’t believe that this guy can help us. I mean I don’t intend to be the killjoy here but how can a human solve a problem which we can’t solve? And that too, you’re deciding to call The Hope.”
Michael hushed him “Gabriel, you’ve always been the dissident in us. And I admire that because it was your opposition and the fact that you were our Devil’s Advocate is probably the reason why we were saved from many huge problems. But maybe, this time you may be wrong. And besides, what other options do you have to take on our enemy? None.”
“C’mon, don’t fight. We need to think together like we always do. This is going to be a very vital decision which we take and this resolution affects billions of people worldwide. People who don’t know us. Concentrating the lives of those many people in the hands of one person may prove disastrous, but if we don’t agree to do so, there’s a chance, a very good one, that these people might not live another day if we do nothing.” said Raphael
Gabriel was not prepared to let it go without a fight. He said “Raphael, don’t you remember what happened the last time we gave such powers to a person? The guy went on to be the most tyrannical person in human history. He started World War 2 and brought human values to such lows that made me disgust ourselves for giving him powers. In the end, we ourselves had to go to Earth to solve this problem which cost many human lives over again, suffering which caused the world many problems for another decade. Tell me, do you really want to do the same mistake over and over again?”
“But what do you want me to do? And besides, this mistake happened only once and that too, only with Hitler. But in this emergency, The Hope has to be chosen by us, and he is the only one who can stop this destruction.. So as you can see, we have no other option but to bring The Hope in.” Michael answered
“Okay, I get your point. But please, at least this time, we’ll wait for some more time. We’ll see whether he can stand up to pressure and if he has the spine to stand up against evil when the time comes. We’ll make him face the circumstances without powers, in the human way, and if he can convince me that he is worthy of becoming The Hope, it’s only then that he will be allowed to gain the powers.”
Michael protested “That’s not fair. How is he going to face such tough problems without our help? He wouldn’t last a second once he is led into the battle arena.”

Gabriel replied in a cold tone “He will have to. If he is worthy, he can

take care of himself. There’s no other way and we are not repeating our

    previous mistakes.”
