TethisA Poem by Genevieve Glynn-ReevesA simple prose poem about the nature of love, drowning and always being just a little too much.I walk into the bedroom and he is getting dressed. He says “from a distance storms are really beautiful”. He pulls a T shirt over his head and for a second he has a
blue ghosts face. “Even hu… especially
huge natural disasters. Hurricanes and Tsunamis. The wonderful swirling
patterns and the deep forever blue”. He puts his trousers on and it is as if he never took them
off. “I always think how
lovely they look. How nice it would be to get swept up in the overpowering
currents”. Socks on feet and shoes on socks. “Just perfect
confusion, no beginning or end just ebbing and flowing. Bliss” He picks up his bag and puts his phone in his pocket. “But then I remember
how easily I’d drown”. He leaves and he doesn’t come back. I cry, but I don’t blame him. Now I am sitting in the bathtub and trying to forget how to
swim. © 2016 Genevieve Glynn-Reeves |
