What I Am

What I Am

A Poem by Genevieve Robinson McKibben

What I Am

If I am beautiful to see,

Born and blessed most lovingly;

If I’m common as a yam…

God has made me what I am.

If my eyes are vivid blue,

Chestnut brown or green to view;

If a cloudy diagram…

God has made me what I am.

If my form’s a perfect shape

Or pathetic in its drape;

That’s no funny epigram…

God has made me what I am.

If my life is blessed with health,

Whether poor or rich in wealth.

Make me humble as a lamb…

God has made me what I am.
