His TimeA Chapter by GenevaCnwyIt is now Calleass time.It didn’t take long after Calleas returned home that he regained much of him human traits. The color of his skin returned and his eyes returned to their emerald color. His eyes shown brighter than they ever have. He walks into the woods staring off into the distance. He feels that there is someone behind him. “I know it’s you Alexander. Do us all a favor and stop hiding.” Calleas turns and smiles. Alexander smiles in embarrassment. After all these years Alexander still holds much of his youth, which Calleas envies him for. “I’m sorry Calleas. I have specific instructions to watch over you and not to be seen.” Calleas shakes his head. “Well, the not being seen part is not working. Don’t you have somewhere else to go do? Aren’t there other duties for you?” Alexander sighs. “If I am not watching you I am watching someone else. At this time you are the only one I am assigned to watch.” Calleas turns to him, “Why are you always watching people?” Alexander smiles. “I’m a watcher. My sole purpose of this life.” Calleas didn’t mind having Alexander watch him. In a lot of ways he was like a guardian angel. Calleas headed back to town leaving Alexander watching in the distance. As soon as he walks back into the sunlight he is blinded for a moment. The only thing that is clear to him is the sound of a child’s laughter. Once he regains his sight a small girl comes running towards him. As she jumps he holds his arms open and catches her. She has a lot of his features. She has the same chocolate hair and emerald eyes. The sight of her brings a smile that Calleas can’t even deny. He holds her close and listens to her tiny heartbeat. “Papa, can we go to your spot today?” Calleas walks back towards a small cottage. “I don’t think so Grace. Maybe tomorrow.” Her face loses its smile. “Please papa! Pretty please! It’s so pretty today!” Calleas walks into the cottage with Grace pleading endlessly. His wife, Alessina, still cooking the days meal says, “Oh Calleas. Just appease her please. I still have a lot of work to do.” Her smile is very much undeniable to Calleas just like his daughter Grace. He sighs, “Oh all right. Come on Grace.” Grace runs out the door leaving just enough time for Calleas to give his wife a kiss goodbye. The walk wasn’t as long as he remembered. It was by that same creek that Calleas lost his first love. His daughter’s hair shimmered in the sunlight by the creek. She began picking the near by flowers. He took a seat by the creek watching his daughter run around. Suddenly Calleas felt colder, the sunlight was dimming. He could feel the danger in the air. There was something wrong but he couldn’t put his finger on it. In was seems like a flash Alexander rushes past him saying, “Run!” Calleas grabs his daughter and pulls her up into his arms and runs. Grace asks, “Papa what’s wrong? Papa?” His heart is pounding and he keeps running. He knows that something is surrounding them. Something grabs his legs and he falls. Grace flies out of his arms. In that moment the panic starts to set in. He can hear his daughter’s screams in the distance. He runs again towards her and finds her being chased by something sinister. In an instant Calleas grabs his daughter and puts her behind him. He finally gets a good look at the thing. He recognizes those eyes, those dark coal eyes and that sinister smile. “Get away from her Darcio.” Says Calleas. They circle each other; all the while Grace is standing faithfully behind her father. “I’m not going to touch her Calleas. But I can’t say that they won’t.” Calleas was confused then in that moment a group of four men come out from the darkness. Darcio disappears laughing and Calleas watches them circle them anticipating when they would try to attack. He sees a small gap that leads to a trail back to their home. He waits for the right moment and slowly pulls Grace around to the front of him. He leans down all the while his eyes still looking at the men and whispers, “When I give the word you run. Do you understand me?” Grace looks at him with tears falling. “What about you?” Calleas repeats, “Do you understand me?” Grace could hear the urgency in his voice and she nods her head. Within milliseconds they jump forward at once and Calleas pushes Grace to the opening and she runs. It wasn’t long after that two of them began to follow her. Calleas rushes past the other two that are now lying on the floor. Suddenly one of the last two gets blown away. His only focus now is the one after his daughter. Grace still running as fast as her little legs can take her stops dead in her tracks. The last man was now in front of her. She turns around and there he was again. She backs away slowly and he begins his pounce. Just as he leaps she sees Calleas grab him. The two men are on the ground wrestling. Graces could no longer see her father or the man. All she could hear were cries of pain. She shouts, “Papa! Papa!” and she ran back into the woods. The man was so close to her face she could feel his scorching breath. Her father was still right there holding him back. Calleas gets Grace behind him and now lodged in-between him and a tree. The man was snapping at her father’s face. Suddenly in what seems like a black blurt the man is thrown off Calleas. Calleas falls to the ground and doesn’t move. Grace runs to his side. She didn’t notice all the deeps wounds on her father until that moment. She holds on to her father when Alexander appears in front of them. He is now circling them but his attention is not on him. The man jumps out with such speed but Alexander was much faster. The two men flew off into the distance and all Grace could hear was a blood-curdling cry. Within a blink Alexander was back but now his attention was on her and her father. “Calleas, Calleas answer me!” shouted Alexander. Calleas opens his eyes and whispers to Alexander. “Get Grace out of here please.” It was at the moment that the darkness began to fad. Alexander grabs Calleas and lifts him up. “Acilia is going to take care of her Calleas. Hold on. Please!” Grace sitting on the floor terrified looks up to see Acilia’s beautiful golden auburn eyes. “It’s ok Grace. You’re father is going to be fine.” Acilia takes Grace and they all disappear into the woods. © 2008 GenevaCnwy |
