Even the undead can have broken hearts.

Calleas stands out in the courtyard letting the sun hit his skin.  He closes his eyes and looks up to the sky.  The sun touching him fills him with and instant warmth that he only ever felt when he was around Acilia.  The warmth spread through him much like a wild fire.  He holds out his arms and spreads open his hands so they can too bask in the sunlight.  His smile turns to laughter; the sun brought back the happiness he had been missing for a very long time.  It wasn’t long until a cool breeze came by.  It was at that instant his arms dropped to his side and his smile begins to fade.

With a sigh he walks out into the forest.  He went to his usual spot by the creek.  It was the one spot where the sun always managed to shine.  No matter what the weather was.  He sat by the creek looking out into the distance.  He was tempted to look in the creek but some how the thought of seeing his reflection frightened him.  He closes his eyes and leans over.  His face is so close to the cool water that he can smell its sweet scent.  He slowly opens his eyes.

His reaction wasn’t what he had originally thought it would be.  He looked at his now pale green eyes.  They were sad to see him the way he was now.  He still has a significant amount of color to his skin.  It was fading though, the white was taking over and that thought brought back the fear and he smashes the surface of the water with his hand.  He then cowers back to a tree and rests his face in his hands.

A sudden familiar warmth spreads through him again.  She was there in front of him.  She gently pulls apart Calleas’s hands and they look into each other’s eyes.  Acilia was Calleas’s angel.  All the time they spent with each other only made him fall even deeper in love with her.  Despite what she was, and what he was becoming, her skin never dulled in its complexion.  The color was still as vibrant as any living woman’s.  He longed to be closer to her.  He drew his face closer to hers.  He was just closes enough so that the tip of his nose touched her cheek.  He could feel her breathing quicken, he then went closer so that his lips now touched her skin.  Slowly his lips traced across her skin and then he moved to her lips.

Just as they touched she spoke, “Calleas, stop!” and they pulled back from each other.  Calleas then looked away and stood up.  Just as he began to walk away she stopped him once more.  “Calleas please don’t do this.” Said Acilia.  He turned quickly towards her.  All she had to do was look into his eyes to know just how he was feeling.  The mix of hurt and anger now flowed through him and he broke the silence.  “Why do you torture me so?” and he pulled his arm from her grasp.  “Why do you keep me here?  I don’t understand it Acilia.” The words were sharp and as lovely as Acilia was the light seemed to dim when they were said.  “I just can’t Calleas.  It’s not supposed to be.” She said.

Calleas could feel the anger spread even quicker through him.  “I know you feel for me just as I feel about you.  I’ve known it since the day we first met.  If this wasn’t supposed to be why do you let me follow into these very woods and why did you even bother giving me this!”  He points to the two small puncture marks on his neck.  She was silent and she looked away.  She knew he could know how she felt by looking at her face and she didn’t want him to see just how badly she was hurting.  She then spoke once more, “You’re not like me Calleas.  You did not complete the process.  You’re supposed to drink the blood of the person who has bitten you.  I know now that I cannot allow you to drink my blood.  You are not meant for this life…” she paused and he just stared at her in confusion.  She then says “Not just yet.”

Calleas becoming angrier with frustration and shouts.  “Then why did you even bite me in the first place?  Was this some kind of game?”  Acilia looks up and lets him see the tears falling down her face.  “I thought it was your time.  But, it was entirely too soon Calleas.”  Acilia walks past Calleas back towards the courtyard with him chasing after her.

He grabs her arm and turns her towards him.  “Acilia there is more to this than you would have be believe.  What are you not telling me?”  it frightened her that he knew so much without even telling him.  “What you do not know Calleas is best left unsaid.”  She looks towards the tallest tower of the castle.  Calleas looks up and then back at her.  “I’m not afraid of him Acilia.” He says.  Her face is now stern, “Well you should be Calleas.  He can destroy faster than you can take in a breath at this stage.”  Without hesitation he says “Then why don’t you finish the process so that I may stand a chance against my foe.”

Her anger then starts to flow, “No Calleas.  This is not your life path.  You have other things you need to take care of.  Things that are bigger than this, bigger than us.”  His heart was breaking more and more with every passing second.  He blurts out “You’re not afraid of him Acilia.” And she responds sharply, “I’m just like him.”

Suddenly a cough breaks the silence.  Acilia forces a smile and says, “Hello Alexander.  This is Calleas.  The one whom you are to take back home tomorrow.”  Calleas’s eyes begin to travel from Alexander and Acilia.  “What do you mean going home?  Acilia…”  “Goodbye Calleas.  We’ll meet again one day.”  She smiled and forced the tears back from her face and disappeared into the darkness.

Calleas stood there in silence.  His heart was broken and he couldn’t understand why he was still standing.  He looked over to see Alexander not too far from him.  Alexander had many of the same features as Acilia.  His eyes were full of kindness and the air was lighter when he was around.  His complexion, though hinted with a trace of white, still had its copper tone.  Calleas knew Alexander had to be older than he but if one to look at them both most would say Calleas was the eldest out of the two.

Alexander rubbed his eyes behind his glasses and then smiled at Calleas.  He finally broke the silence.  “You know more than many here do Calleas.  And yes, you’re right.  She does love you.  Life has a funny way of torturing us poor souls.  Even an undead life.” And he laughs.  His laughter made Calleas smile and they both walked into the castle together.
