Don't Search for more than EverythingA Poem by Luther
Will I age like the crystal unicorn Trapped in never, never land? Drinking from the purple stream With the same face staring back? Year after year Will I roam the paradise alone? Still wallowing in miseries, The butterflies my only hope? One day I’m whisked away upon one’s wing And we glide among the stars, The moon illuminates my dreams, Away from my distant past. The silhouette of Before the falling sun, And we reach the shore in the light of ‘twi’ To watch it come back up. I walk alone upon the rocky beach And look into the murky sea, But an elderly, unknown man Is staring back at me. This once crystal unicorn Is now all but a wilted man. The place I left was everything, But I longed for more than that. I now just sit upon the beach Trying to find a new path home, Because the butterfly’s wings fell off When she lost all hope. Then one night I went to rest With the waves tickling my feet, And rejoiced as I woke Because the tide had swallowed me. I was washed upon the golden sands, Cleansed by the purple waves, But as I looked into the stream I was burdened by dismay. The gorgeous crystal unicorn Who I once used to be, Was still replaced by a dying man Staring back at me. With this I soon realised That on leaving never, never land The crystal unicorn shattered And is now a haggard man. Running into the wild wood I found myself a vine, I climbed a tree and leaped back off Whispering ‘goodbye.’ The old man hangs there to this day, The vine around my neck. Except the look within my eye The unicorn is all but dead. © 2010 Luther |
