Midian.A Poem by Gene Von Banyard
Are monsters really real? Are the monsters really monsters?
When I was a child I lived with a monster, And he was real. At school, I was considered a monster by those far Too sheltered to care. I was lost and I was alone and then one night, On the fullest of moons, A myriad of whispers spoke to me, Beckoned me, bid me welcome as they Opened the gates of Horn & Ivory, To a realm beyond trifle and profanity, To a tribe governed by memorable fancy and Imaginings Fantastique!
With a glint of fang and caress of tendril, I was Guided to the inner-sanctum and together we Descended to the catacombs below. I could not comprehend what I saw, Knew not the sounds I heard and had never been Exposed to the feelings that overwhelmed me as they Led me to the centre of their dominion.
Before me, in all its macabre, grotesque glory, Stood the totem to my destiny. A condensation of faces, Some mysterious and frightening, Others beautiful and beguiling. Limbs reached out in a mortifying arabesque of diablerie, At its height, an ever-evolving nebulae, in its depths, A writhing pit of of iniquity and debauchery.
And then it spoke to me...
With the purity of telepathy it revealed to me my true Identity and the Great Work that I was a vital part of, How I was composed of Sacred Geometry and part of The Great Architecture of the Universe. It explained to me that all past trappings were Merely part of a great test, a crucible to see if I could possess the gifts bequeathed to me by The Ancient Ones, so that I may Configure my own cosmology within the secret Universe of Midian.
With these words came my awakening. With these chimeras came my tribe. With this Kingdom came my soul's purpose.
“All things are true. God is astronaut, Oz is over the rainbow and Midian is where the monsters live.”
