Chapter 3: No Face

Chapter 3: No Face

"

Who is she? How will they find her? Is it a danger if she could see him, yet he didn't know?

"

As the years passed by, Marcus, Pope Stine, and the four robed figures searched nonstop, but nothing came up. Marcus still couldn’t sense her, or at least, the call of her life force frequently changed from strong to so weak that she was barely there. At the same time, Marcus started having dreams about the girl. It was always the same.

Marcus saw the young girl run from her demons with fear, then suddenly accept them with an open heart. The parts of the dreams when she cried, the demons showed compassion and cheered her up. She talked to them often and depended on their existence. Whenever they left, she would be so lonely and sometimes, she’d cry. All of them were her best friends, her true friends. This is what Marcus saw, but try as he might, he could never see her face or the true color of her hair. Every time, all he saw were dark shadows.

Then one day, his dreams changed. Marcus saw a demon, but it was no ordinary demon. Standing in front of him was Satan, the devil himself. Listening, Marcus panicked as the rough choppy words reached his ears.

“So God has sent his son to punish me. Fool, it won’t work. It’s just so simple…because how do you truly hurt an enemy that cherishes nothing? You can’t! I’m sorry my dear daughter, but! Goodbye.”

Suddenly, the vision shifted and Marcus saw the full extent of what the devil had said. By saying goodbye, the devil had literally, carelessly disowned the very daughter that was so precious to him!

The girl’s mortal father, her one connection to the devil, died and all ties that she had to her real father were severed. Though the girl should’ve felt more pain for the loss of her mortal father, the loss of her real father, the devil, devastated her far worse. Her brother tried to comfort her, but to no avail. All of her dear friends left her, abandoning her by the devil’s order and leaving her to her brother alone.

Marcus actually felt sorry for the girl, except the vision instantly shifted once again. In front of him was the devil once more, surrounded by more demons than he had ever thought possible. All of them were angry with the devil, snarling and shouting, though none called mutiny. The demons were loyal, perhaps too loyal for comfort. Still, they protested, knowing that the devil truly did love his daughter, too much so to even abandon her.

All of a sudden, the devil commanded silence and the entire horde fell silent. Instead of some long explanation, he simply stated, “Christ will hurt her.”

Somehow, a huge understanding was found in those four simple words. Immediately, one-third of the demonic horde took off to return to the girl, whereas the others stayed and bowed. As the demons who left reached the girl, they found that they couldn’t get near her. To his surprise, the girl had proclaimed something that not even Marcus had expected and would surely keep the demons at bay.

“The devil is evil and only dwells in sin. I shall refuse the devil and commit myself to God. Lord watch over me and have mercy on my mortal soul.”

When the devil had supposedly abandoned her, he had obviously forgotten that she was born into a warm-loving mortal family with a strong Catholic belief. Letting her go to a family with such a strong faith in the lord, the devil lost his one precious daughter without much of a chance at getting her back. That’s when Marcus noticed the girl’s older brother. Not only was he her older brother, but he was her real brother, the true son of the devil. Desperate for his little sister, her older brother started a turn in her life that would revert her back, though it risked her affection for him.

The years passed by some more and with each day, Marcus saw what her brother had planned. By abandoning her and betraying her, he caused his little sister to stray from God considerably and turn back to the devil. In doing so, all of her demons returned to her and she welcomed them with open arms. It was unfortunate that for her to return, her love and trust for her brother had to be ruined. To make it worse for her, Marcus could sense her now.
