Boat Race

Boat Race

A Poem by Gemzie

It starts off just very slow

the momentum picks up as it starts to flow

you sit there thinking what to do

when the going gets tough you forget what to do

voices calling out the tasks

how you wish you had a mask

the pace is quickening now, you fight to keep up

KNowing no matter what you cannot give up

Then off it goes with a push for ten, you hold on tightly and push on like men

this race's a challenge..that must be won

As the ending comes closer, the end s in sight

and all this hard work seems less of a fight

as the final strokes are taken you look on with pride

as the other boats draw up along your side

the race is now over, the battle is won

but the work of a rower is never done

From six in the morning till the bedtime of the sun

the rower is out there soaring under the sun

Her mind is so focused, its fixed on the game

theres no room left in her to think of the pain

Today it is over now, so she heads back on home

back to the children that shes loved nd has grown

they gaze up and question, but mum why dya do?

the crazy sport where you wait ages for the loo

she smiles at them sweetly and says darling its fun

except for the part that it numbs your bum

the little boys gigled and gave her a hug

as she puts them to bed just a snug as a bug.
