Wolf in the WaterA Story by TwiztidJewlA girl falls into herself... "My hearts always with you now. Don't question why so many have tired" M.C. Shadows sang out over the loud speakers. The A7X concert was all Lola had been looking forward to for the past few months and it was finally here. She was all the way up front and the pressure from the thousands of people pushing to the front was enough to make her lungs scream. She was having an amazing adrenalin rush. The next song started to play, 'I wont see you tonight', and a mosh pit opened up around her as the crowds excitement grew. Soon she was running trying not to trip on any of the bodies on the ground. In front of her the guy tripped and fell but Lola just stepped on him as she ducked under the next punch from the guy beside her. She glanced back at him momentarily to see a pair of crystal blue eyes from her past in the crowd. Her momentary pause was not unpunished as her jaw met the next punch square on. Lola fell backwards and the blacked out. She woke up in the back of an ambulance. No quite sure why she was alone. She tried to sit up but her head felt like it weighed a thousand pounds so she laid back until she could finally move again. Just as she went to sit up she was thrown from the bed and into the floor, then onto the wall, then the ceiling. Lola was tumbling in the ambulance like a rag doll in a dryer. As she came around for the 3rd (or maybe 4th) time she landed on her arm and screamed as she felt it snap. By the time that ambulance stopped rolling she was officially broken. When the ambulance came to a stop Lola was drenched in her own blood. Her white bandanna was now red with blood and lying peacefully on top of her back. Her left arm was broken and her left shoulder. Her right eye was swollen shut and her right ankle was twisted. When the back door of the ambulance fell off Lola pulled her through very slowly and painfully. Her body fell limply into the white now staining it red. The cold numbed her body and numb from everything Lola let sleep take her. x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x She awoke sometime later to the sound of sniffing in her ear. There was a dog and it had found her. She opened her eyes to find she was upright staring over a distant blue clear lake in the spring time. She blinked and focuses in on the animal in front of her, eye level with her. It was not a dog, exactly. It reminded her of a wear Wolfe she read about in stores. It walked on two legs and stood 6 feet tall. It had razor sharp claws and a long black tale. It had the torso of a skinny man and its entire body was covered in black fur. Its head was of a wolfs and it was staring at her with crystal blue eyes. Then the beast crouched down on all fours and lifted up its leg. "OH no you don’t!" She shouted. She moved backward and found her feet ripped from the ground. The beast jumped and ran away with its tail in in-between its legs and then it ran and dove into the lake. Lola fell and as she did leaves fell around her like rain. She fell on her back and her feet flew up above her. Maybe feet. Roots of a tree dangled above he as two trunks came to her body. She was speechless as she stared at the roots in place of where her feet should be. When she stood up she could feel the roots work themselves into the earth and as she took a step she ripped up the earth. She stumbled down to the lake tripping over vines and bursting through bushes. When she reached the lake she fell on all fours. The reflection she saw in the river took her breath away. Staring back at here were purple eyes, the only thing still human about her face. Her skin was now brown bark. Here eye brows green moss and her lips were moss as well. She had seemingly turned into a tree...thing. Her hair was now branches that fell around her face and they were covered with leaves, the branches of a weeping willow. She stood up and saw herself fully reflected in the lake. Her hair fell all the way to the ground and her body was now skinny and made of tree. Every ounce of fat had melted away and all of her muscles and bones had been turned into a tree. She did not know what to do. She stood and started at her reflection until it was too dark to see. She stood in that spot for a week before finally wrapping her brain around what had happened, even if she did not understand. When she finally accepted the truth her mind was bogged down with answers but there was no one to answer them. She was seemingly alone in the forest and with this lake. In this place Lola had no sense of time. It was neither day nor night, just was. It could probably be related to dusk in our world, the sky was always a tint of purple with clouds always above. There was never wind, never rain just an endless crisp evening. Lola tried counting seconds once but she got lost in the magic in the air. Her resolve was to just accept the fact that she was in this new place and soon enough her memories seemed to melt away and existence just was and she was okay with that. Lola was walking around the lake like normal, since she had gotten there actually all she had done was walk around the lake, when the thought occurred to her that she wanted to sit down. So Lola walked over to a boulder on the edge of the lake and let her roots dangle down into the water. She was expecting to feel the water soak into her roots and get a refreshing taste of life but she didn’t. When she looked down at the lake below the surface where her roots went into the water were pink smudges that were in the shape of something familiar. Shocked Lola pulled her roots out of the water to see that there was nothing different about them. Slowly she lowered her roots back into the water and saw her roots transform into… FEET! Below the surface of the water she was turning into what she once was. Lola was excited so she got up and stood up on the boulder. She looked down at the surface of the lake and saw the reflection of her body, the one that was made of a tree. She took a step forward and then dived into the lake head first. She was expecting to be submerged in the water and to start swimming but in reality she was above the water again. She was treading water with her body. She looked into the reflection of the lake to see purple eyes, tan skin, black hair and a human face standing back up at her. She looked down past her reflection and saw her body made of roots and leaves treading below her. Afraid that if she didn’t get out of the lake fast enough she would be thrown back into that place she was before Lola swam to the edge of the lake and got out. She sat on a boulder above the lake and started at her reflection. She was human and she could feel her humanity returning back to her. She felt alive again. A gust of wind came and startled Lola. She took a deep breath and racked her memory for what had just happened. Slowly and surely her memory came back to her. She had been at a concert and then… she was in an ambulance. Then she remembered the ambulance falling. Did she die? Lola’s head shot up as she looked around. There was snow all over she realized and suddenly she was very cold. The lake was frozen over except for once spot, probably where she had broken through. The lake was situated beside a hill. That’s when Lola noticed that there was an ambulance upside down at the bottom of the hill, almost into the lake. There was also a red speck from the door that led to the lake. Excited and confused Lola got up and ran as fast as she could towards the scene which was awkward considering she wasn’t used to her legs again. Once she was close enough she slowed to a walk and stopped at the edge of the red snow. She realized that it was blood, her blood. Her hands started shaking and when she walked towards the ambulance she felt like she was going to faint. Inside of the ambulance was a complete disaster. There was blood all over the walls, in some places it was even dripping. Lola looked up the hill to see lights flashing by and a rail broke at the top. Besides the broken trees and the mess the ambulance had left. Her toes were numb and the cold was finally starting to pull her under again. Determined to escape Lola climbed up the hill back to where she had come from. Once she reached the top she saw the last thing she expected. It was highway. From where she appeared where the side rails had been broken there were a few cop cars around her. There were dozens of people and just as she appeared a dozen people stopped short in front of her. The previous chatter went silent and they all stared at her. “Ohm, hi?” Lola stammered, but still no one moved. Then someone walked out of the crowd. “Were you in that ambulance?” he asked. He had brown hair and crystal blue eyes. “I think so… I don’t remember.” She lied. It’s not like she could say yes, but she was alright, she turned into a tree then dove into a lake and came out apparently minutes later. “What happened?” but no one answered her question. 3 emt’s suddenly burst forward and wrapped her up in a blanket and put her in the back of cop car. “Wait!” she shouted but no one listened to her. The man who had asked her if she was in the ambulance was standing outside of the car with his back to her. He was talking to one of the emts who had shoved her into the car. There was no one in the car and it was extremely warm. Lola just started out bright eyed. Then the man turned around and smiled at her. He opened the car door and got in beside her. “What’s going on?!” she demanded more than asked. She stared at the man next to her and felt more uneasy when he didn’t answer. He just stared at her with those crystal blue eyes. “Why aren’t you answering me?!” and all he did was stare. Suddenly the man lunged at her and threw his weight on top of her. Before she said anything she saw his face change to that of a wolves and then she realized that he was the beast from the other side of the lake. The beast let out a howl and bit down on her neck. She almost screamed but before she could think to, she was dead.
