'til one beating to many

'til one beating to many

A Poem by Gee
"

Domestic abuse

"
She never wore bright colours
preferred the night to day
would never answer questions asked
her fear would never say,
what terror lay behind her door
what torment lived within
ashamed to show the black and blues
tattooed across her skin,
by the man who vowed to love her
to protect, cherish and care
a husband now her captor
in a lived to long nightmare.

Thankfully, I fled this kind of dynamic before it could reach the marital stage. After that point, escape becomes almost impossible. There are so many shocking and sad tales like this happening behind the most innocent looking front doors. My heart bleeds for this woman if she is a creation based on a reality. A powerful, truthfully told poem.

Thank you Rosalie O
It is sad to realize that so many relationships exist. Obviosly more has to be said to make these situations more public. Women are not meant to be punching bags or subjects of derision by their "So-called loving ."spouses.
Take care - Dave

Thanks Dave.
Hope all is well
There are many things that could be said about the horrors women have faced for many millennia. It is no wonder why, np matter all the magazines, movies, cultures pointing to how women MUST have a man at her side to feel whole, underneath, many think men are pigs. Can anyone blame them??

Thanks for dropping in Red, most appreciated
when a lover has to own...to manipulate....
the one he does that to can no longer love him...
when one loves us freely....that is the love that brings contentment....rather than worry.

Simple words Gee, but with a punch to the head in power.
We have all seen it and most likely guess we know a culprit or two, but all we can summon is at best to be kind, when we would like to tattoo a label or two on the culprits head to make it known to the world what they are.
They wouldn't key their own car or break their own windows, yet they find it acceptable to make the one they allegedly love lifes a misery by controlling everything they allegedly love about them!
I'll leave it there, as I'm about to exceed my swearables threshold for the week, and it's only Tuesday too!

What is this sunshine you speak of? 😃
Enjoy it, it will be over far too soon.
that's really depressing man. regardless, some great lines, especially the opening "she never wore bright colours," and "the black and blues / tattooed across her skin."

Thank you sir
Wow! Dear Gee, you have captured abuse in the home superbly in this flawlessly penned poem. The visual detail is so striking I could see the lady in question in my mind as I read. It must be hell on earth to live with such terrible beatings and to be controlled by a man who promised to love you forever, in sickness and in health and then, conveniently forgot about his vows. I think some men under go the same kind of marriages where the woman beats them and tries to control them. I knew of one case quite close to me here. I imagine it must humiliate whichever partner is the victim! Thank you for writing this wonderful poem and for the message it contains as somebody may read it and derive the courage to walk away and report such a horrendous marriage, after reading the poem. Kudos, dear Gee and THANK YOU! for sharing, dear friend...
