An idle summer sun

An idle summer sun

A Poem by Gee
"

A very poor summer in to the UK, much water falling !

"
You should not be tired, not this year
for you have barely risen at all,
you have lazed whilst teeming skies of grey
washed this summer to the fall,
yet still you deem it right to leave
ceding warmth to wet and drear,
leaving all behind in your lazy wake
to mourn another sun less year.

You sum up well here Gee our abysmal British summer. So much rain and we have a long wait until we can expect warm sunshine to make an appearance again. Elusive sun. Abundant rain. Really lovely poetry my friend. Love the conversational style of writing. Addressing the sun. Blake did that too.

Hi Christine, thanks for dropping in.
Hope Berks has better weather than Bucks !
Nice poem, the simplicity in diction makes it beautiful indeed. The poetic flow is excellent 👍

Thank you kindly
at first i read this poem as a wistful goodbye to a year, and heavy-heartedly accepting the passing of another year and the slow approach of death. i am obviously in a bit of a glum mood today. i should have known, growing up in australia, that the brits' love to complain about their weather.
jokes aside, this was a great poem. it has the real feeling of a lament, and your desire for one more sunny day is expressed eloquently.

That’s a British Isles sun for you. Always the slacker and ready to push off for a holiday. I don’t see him enough at all. It gives me serious doubts about climate change when the summer sun barely makes an impact. But how we need him so! I think he knows that and messes with our heads for fun. An enjoyable piece of whimsy.

It's warm here in the southern US if we can keep the hurricanes at bay. We've had monumental flooding too. So I guess one person's gray sky is another's sunny day or something like that. Life always has storms at some point. I enjoyed your salute to the weary sun. F.

Apologies for the late reply Fabian, thank you
Here,on the other side of the "Pond" we've had a somewhat sunnier summer. On the East Coast, for the most part, it's been quite balmy. With the ending of October we find we have been quite short in receiving the rain that we desperately need.
Take care - over there - Dave

Thank you Dave
Bet we had more rain than you because we ducks and drakes and five babies on our village pond!
That said your poem, finely and sincerely written it was/is true as true could be. 'You should not be tired, not this year - for you have barely risen at all, - you have lazed whilst teeming skies of grey - washed this summer to the fall.. ' Lovely words, very appropriate, sir.

Our Summer's been a literal wash out, miserable at times but also quite lovely after rain stopped! That said, our weather doesn't include hurricanes, thank goodness. Hope you can get the guys working today.

Good morning,
Such fun to read you rhyming poem early this morning… but so sad that you had no sun… and yet you live so close to where in live in Spain and we had too much sun (still do) with no rain! And no rain has really been a huge problem.
But I always think that dark rainy days make for good poetry…

Sounds great and thank you Gee…

Nicely rhymed piece describing the famously damp British weather. If you'd spent the summer in Virginia, however, you might think more kindly toward those cool days.
