God's gift to writing

God's gift to writing

A Poem by Gee
"

Sometimes I read folk not critiquing but criticising that which is offered up by us mere mortals

"
It's ugly is the way you write
they say once words are read,
you'll have them turning in their graves
those scribes now long since dead,
for what you give up to the eye
lacks substance, depth and class
would have a master wield his cane
to smart you 'cross your arse,
so go away and hone your skills
read Dickinson, Frost and Poe
write quatrains short with easy rhyme
on a subject that you know,
and when you think you have the skills
penning words to please the heart
return, we'll read and criticise
and again tear your work apart.

Well said Gee!!
We have lost poets here because of these asshats. These people have no heart, no brains, and surely are cowards!! Curt

Indeed they are Curt.
Thank you
Right, okay, Gee, I've had a giggle, woken with plans to try harder - so, thank you very much. Meantime, back at the ranch: Perhaps we all lay ourselves open to comments by posting our 'babies' but - that doesn't mean we have to put up with people who spend half an hour typing out their arrogance just to be on stage! Give and take, courtesy and pleasantries, hello and thank yous go down well, however!
Happy weekend to one and all! Stay dry if possible. :)

Thank ye kindly from damp Darzet!
Yes, I can think of one self appointed editor in chief who seems to enjoy putting down the work of "mere mortals."

Thanks for dropping by John, yes, he is a knob!
Maybe I just have a petty heart, but this made me chuckle more than it probably should have. These people wouldn't be satisfied even if the people they're giving advice to went away and did exactly what they told them to do. They'd still find something they didn't like about it that makes it irreparably wrong (of course if it's the one person I have in mind, they will just copy and paste the same critique anyways so it doesn't really matter what you do). I saw someone have the absolute audacity to leave a review on something with him the other day telling the author that they should be grateful he gave them a review and took the time to do it. I would hope that's satire, but I fear it was not.
I guess we all can't be God's poet laureate, but I think I'll be satisfied being bad if they're the judge.

Gee,
Ain't it the truth... but what else can we expect from Philistines? I think it was Billy Sunday, an antique evangelist who was confronted by a gentleman who told him his sermon was terrible, to which Sunday replied, "Well, how did you preach it?"
I am sometimes amazed at how much a simple suggestion improves what I wrote. Other times, I just wish they could think well enough to earn the right to an opinion.

Have you ever noticed that these people , when you read their work cannot write a decent poem themselves?
You have to be yourself what ever kind of poetry you write and NEVER write to please other people....

We are all different in the way we write and should respect each others capabilities.

Am good thank you Gee, not much poetry going on but plenty of creativity elsewhere :)
Thank God those days in school have now been dissolved in the mists of time. Now a days, students are encouraged to think outside the box, to think for themselves and recognise their own poetic skills, then encouraged to use them. Thank you, dear Gee, for sharing this sublimely penned poem with excellent visual detail. I love the title of the poem. It draws the reader in to read the poem. Great write, perfect rhythm and rhyme too, dear Gee. I enjoyed reading and thank you for sharing..

tearing a poet apart is not really the answer...
encouragement causes more work from a poet, more effort....
Being slammed can silence voices that could eventually find their own chord in the rhythm of writing.

This couldn't possibly be everyone's "top reviewer", could it? And I use the term top reviewers quite wrong!
Or perhaps one of many pointless trolls who think winding people up is an excellent replacement for talent or having a point!
He, and it is 99.99999% certain to be a he wouldn't say boo to a goose in real life, for fear of being seen as the pointless that's they are.
I'd say more Gee, but that lot is more than f*****g c***s deserve.
