Popping corks and laughter

Popping corks and laughter

A Poem by Gee
"

Attended the opening of a garden room that is dedicated to the memory of Deb Daly who passed away last August.

"
Sometimes we forget the sadness
notice not your empty chair
as popping corks and laughter
fill the celebratory air,
but when your name is mentioned
and tales of you relayed,
the light dims briefly in our eyes
and on lips sad smiles are played,
because popping corks and laughter
with you walked hand in hand,
into our hearts where love you left
like footprints in the sand.

Bitter sweet. Our celebrations have a sad tint when we remember those who can't be there. As Maroon 5 so eloquently put, "Cheers to the wish you were here, but you're not, 'cause the drinks bring back all the memories". Thanks for sharing.

Condolences for your loss. This is a poem of beauty for your friend that I think would be appreciated by her, even more than a garden room. You have a way of expressing grief very gently and I appreciate that skill and effort. Lovely dedication.

Beautifully expressed and I enjoyed this one so much. ;-] So what if it has no structure, it expresses deeply the love within its words.

I would think that many of us will reflect on losing a loved one when reading this, just as I did. But then the bubbles came and made us all smile. I lost my daughter and my granddaughter (her daughter) was always laughing when she was small and so she was named Bertie Bubble Bum.(She had this lovely pinchable bum and of course her laughter was bubbly.
It's that time of year again so maybe we'll pop a few corks for a change.
Love your writing.

Pauline.

People leave us yet live on with us in our joys and celebrations. The undercurrent of sadness is felt forever in the wake of happiness and laughter. Our hearts are so full, even if our eyes be dim. I appreciate the beauty in every line.
