Death, darkness, dormancy,
and every shade of grey
in this season of transition
that has night meld with the day,
where living now a graveyard shift
as nothing stirs, no sound,
the past old headstones rising through
an ermine covered ground,
that holds to heart in hallowed earth
our memories, tears and pain
for those who silent left to wait
until we meet again,
somewhere beyond this fleeting life,
somewhere in blissful peace
where winter, death, no longer seen
since granted sweet release...

A genuine attempt to look into one's self and then share that vision with others. Language, and diction, are all just tools, ones that come from practice. If you want them, and they are not necessary, the key is to read other works, good works, from the masters, and deconstruct them.
I also advise young, and old, to carry a seed book. Write down well-written lines, or phrases from everything you read, and collect words because over time it all will bubble up into your own work

Thanks for the advice and taking the time to give it over, it's appreciated
I am reading this just two days after Queen Elizabeth has died. It ties in so well with the mood of the world as we witness the passing of an icon. Your words are comforting as they are beautiful. Being an American I am sure I cannot begin to relate to what the majority of Brits and Commonwealth are feeling but her sense of duty and longevity were simply astounding.
On a more personal note your write brings up so many memories of those who have gone before us and have been granted their “sweet release”. One can tell this came from the depths of your heart. This is truly a magnificent write. Thank you so much for sharing it.
Thank you Dara.

The queens steadfast presence was always a source of comfort. It will take some time to adjust. Thinking of you all as you mourn her passing.
This is a moving piece. Death has hit close to home for me, again, recently. Claiming a close cousin of mine. We grew up wanting so much, and pushed through even more... your write reminds me to remember he is in the embrace of that "sweet release," and I need not have to worry about him. Thank you.

Thank you for dropping in to read and comment, much appreciated
Gee, This is a wonderful poem, so full of imagery and emotion that I have read it several times. I don't believe knowing that you are from the UK influenced me, but your words left me with a clear impression of graveyards and churchyards I visited in England, Ireland and Scotland many years ago. Very moving.
Many my friend. I yearn to meet again.

I loved the above lines and the poem is powerful and worthwhile. The longer we live, the more people we shall miss. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

Death/Life such a broad and mysterious subject. Yet in this poem, almost manageable, even a promise, a process - so much a part of life's process. A poem that has to be returned to and mulled upon with each new reading. Thanks for sharing. Frederick.
dear Gee... Easter is a time to think of all our loved ones who have passed... to Celebrate their Life and follow in their Footsteps the Sacrifice they made for Us. We are living in a dark and scary time... but we will love and care for the Children and the Elderly who have a Heart to be treasured. Have a Blessed Easter. tenderly, Pat
