Winter with its fallen skies
and cold, dank, heavy air
makes misery (which loves misery)
a much easier cross to bear,
for the audience at the open grave,
for the faces in the hearse,
for the sombre suited "eloquents"
as they read their sombre verse.
For the diggers, bearers, celebrants,
for the mourners as they cry,
death more apt, more doleful
beneath a winter's fallen sky

Been a rough year and the year is getting worst. I lost many this year. The coldness of Winter is here and the sadness is heavy upon my heart. Thank you dear friend for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

My husband passed away in January of 2018. Bitter cold, snow everywhere. It snowed like crazy on the day of his funeral, and it seemed so appropriate. I felt absolutely frozen inside, and totally alone. If had been sunny and warm the disconnect would have been too jarring. I've told everyone that when I die, there better be a celebration and a lot of remembering with laughter or I'm going to come back and haunt them all! You captured the somber mood of most funerals here, and you did with excellent rhyming, too.

We buried one of our best friends at the end of August, the most kind, generous, fun loving lady you could ever wish to meet. After the funeral 150 of us celebrated her life with a " party" she would have loved, this continuing late into the night.
Thank you for sharing and reviewing.
It’s very true, it does seem that way gloom beneath gloomy skies. I like the seasons, gloomy days as well as long as they don’t carry on too long, we do need the sun as well. This is well written and I love the content. Very nice
Well, this one is not your basic upper. If it could be set to music, it would have to be a dirge. Symbolically, though, it is on the mark. Winter is the season associated with death, when life has seemingly gone into hiding. With its grim weather, it easily fits the role much better than any other season.
A nice metaphor using grey skies as if death has fallen, winter is nearing; We are sad, mournful, even grieving until the blooms burst and the sky has an aquamarine hue. Then we can revel in sun's radiance.
Nice write Gee.
Best, B
Winter is bad enough without funerals and funerals are bad enough without Winter, however, bringing the two together kills two birds with one stone, which is quite an economical usage of that morbid missile
Just saying
I love Winter does this means I love misery? lol Ok, yes I love being sad and sentimental sometimes so I can create something, Winter brings these feelings, along deep yearning and aching, warmth... to a special kind of warmth, again Gee your ending is powerful, I hope You can smile and be happy in Winter dear Summers' man :>

You know it just struck me but all of my loved ones have died in cold weather.
I don't know which came first for you the poem or the title. Either way this is a note worthy piece.
Devoted family man and lover of life.
Simply written, easily understood "stuff" for those without code breaking skills. You will NEVER need Google to understand me:)
