Jake was a 5th Christmas present for my daughter who is now nearing her 21st birthday.
I cradled him as his wee heart stilled. Miss him terribly. The pup, Max, now wears his collar in his honour.

This is such a heartbreaking poem. I'm so sorry for your loss, dear Gee.
A beloved pet's death is so crushing!
I have two cats and they're a part of my heart. I can't imagine losing them. It's so scary to even consider it.
You stir an entire ocean of emotion in a few heartfelt words.
Of course they do. The only uncomplicated love.
I cried for all my dogs. Especially recently Merlin who went to play in the sea a few months ago. Now with another but never a replacement. Bodhi my rescue greyhound to go with Eva my rescue Saluki. Beautiful.
always sad when you loose a pet, i feel for your loss.
we had 11 cats over a period of 30 years & 5 dogs over about 20 years (all animals rescued or strays) & each loss was sad for us.
now we only have 2 rescued birds (escaped pets) 1 geriatric budgie we've had since 2009 & the conure about 2 & half years, they enjoy each others company but live in separate cages side by side, so no territorial skirmishes.

Will Rodgers said, “If there are no dogs in Heaven; then, when I die, I want to go where they went.” And, from all the wonderful little canine companions I've loved and lost over the years, I certainly agree.
Knowing this piece is surely deeply personal, strictly on a poetical basis, it would be my honor to lend a hand in seeing it shine as properly deserved … let me know if you'd like my 2¢.
There is no way to convey to others the genuine feelings and emotional fervor one undergoes holding a wee family member when it's their time, unless they've actually experienced it, and even then it's their own they're relating to … as I relate to you and your daughter in this life-changing, heart-stirring instance.
I apologize for my review's length … seems I was swept into your bigger than poem moment.
Thank you for sharing, Gee … bless you, Jake 'n daughter! ⁓ Richard 🍃

Acknowledged, Gee,
My kind words are truly heartfelt.
Come see me sometime. : )
I like that you passed the collar down. I make dream catchers out of them.

Fashion a heart around the tags that hangs and then hang a paw print or do a collage that hangs from that. And a picture of the pet hangs in the middle of the collar to catch the bad dreams. Suddenly I'm feeling a poem coming on about it. I'll post a pic if I can.
I hope you like the Senryu I wrote for you. The more I read you the more I think I got it write.
Gone, but never forgotten... Send one on myself a while back. Still missed. Another vigil... Animal psychics say they do... If you believe. Again, well realized words and emotions.
Pets do become part of the family. I can understand why you would have heartache after a dog goes over the rainbow bridge. Do they go to heaven? Well, I can not answer that question. I am still trying to figure out if there is a heaven! Very emotional write. Lydi**
