Quiet Moments

Quiet Moments

A Poem by Gee
"

Memories

"
It is a quiet place, special, a place kept secret, not shared,
and it will be this way forever perhaps
as I feel not the need to burden others with my thoughts, feelings.
With the passing of time and my " healing"
visits there are becoming less frequent,
not because I love, care, less than before
but more so because the pain has subsided,
eased to the point where memories are now smiles,
smiles that are seldom, if ever, accompanied by tears,
and now, unlike when she was living,
when routine was the bedrock of her life
I need not phone in advance to make a date
I can turn up any time, unannounced,
just drop in to sit, look, remember...

" I'll come back as a Robin" she used to say
" to keep an eye, make sure you are behaving"
then she would laugh, sip her tea.
Tears came easily with the first Robin sighted
and the second, third, but they are now met with a smile
and visions of her sitting hunched in her favourite chair,
a part started crossword on her lap
the words within painstakingly written, some not finished...

I smile as I write this, bid her goodbye,
then leave until the next time.

this hit me hard, I cried, my mother and I love humming birds and we agreed after she died she would bring the humming birds to me and last spring they came so late and I cried every morning and then suddenly there were so many fighting over the feeders and buzzing about nearly every moment the rest of their season. I felt so at ease, whether she brought them or not, I had to believe she did or I wouldn't have made it through this year. Such a powerful and beautiful piece of poetry, thank you so much for sharing this! It's going in my library so don't ever lose it, I find comfort in this.

This is a beautiful poignant poem with true feelings of what grief really is about. You do a nice job of slowly showing the reader how grief and sad memories can become less severe over time and re-visiting the place where reality was and is no more, but memories will last forever. You use excellent metaphors as well in this poem, especially with the robin.
Best wishes
B.

Some people mentioned being hacked. That might have happened to you. I'm pretty sure this is about your mom, whom you said passed away in 2019. My husband passed away in 2018, followed quickly by my brother and my dog. I was absolutely furious for about two years. I've spent the last two healing and understand what you mean about familiar sights bringing smiles instead of sorrow. This is a lovely tribute to the waning of grief, and the acceptance of a loved one's passing.

This poem has a lot of sweetness to it. I can sense an individual who wears his heart on his sleeve at times. Maybe a bit too caring. But there is nothing wrong with that. The poem is emotionally expressive and I like the atmosphere that it creates through each line. It reminds me of stillness and feeling at one with oneself.

dearest Gee. a Mother's passing is more like
a Butterfly who never leaves... and always appears in the Spring.
A lovely poem that keeps Good time... and even has a hidden rhyme.
Mothers nourished us in her womb, and there is always room to sit and talk
about love and forgetmenots. gently, Pat

This is so relatable; and don't apologize for your feelings; when we lose a loved one the pain is intense; as time passes we still love them as much and they will always be in our memory, but after grief usually comes the healing process and that is a very good thing for our souls and our minds. So what you write is medicinal for all of us. Thank you for sharing.
Best, Betty
