From Womb to tomb

From Womb to tomb

A Poem by Gee
"

How brief this life

"
How fleeting is this journey
time passes at a pace,
so brief is our existence
as from womb to tomb we race.

No sooner first breath taken
then death it masks the face,
and all that's gained are memories
as from womb to tomb we race.

And with eternal sleep now granted,
into wooden shrouds we're placed
where our dreams will be of all we missed
as from womb to tomb we raced.

This takes careful, honest steps, Gee. Life held in the palms of time and space, waiting for each and every one of us, The meter is incredible, the repeated words make for honest lyrics.. your thoughts beautiful even in the acceptance of that journey.. These are words to consider.. 'race.. race.. raced.. '

A moment can be stretched beyond the limit of sense, yet it feels like only the other day I was practising that Archie Gemmell goal for Scotland against holland in the '78 world cup.
Time is the only constant, yet pain, loss and regret can glitch our matrix into slowing us down within our sorrow filled minds.
Time flies when you're having fun, but it can be like swimming in glue when we are at a loss.
Fleeting is such a good word to describe our own personal universe of living Gee, and your words explain this conundrum perfectly.
To the universe, our life is barely a blink, but to us, that blink is eternity.

Good morning Lorry, cheers
What a fantastic write this is! I love the title and also the fact that you repeat it in each stanza. Very effective and a joy to read! ~Sharon

Glowing praise, I'm humbled. Thank you kindly Robert
Oh Gee! Maybe quick (and the dead?) but not lacking in any way. You've done good and I would be interested to see how a few more verses would add to life's journey. Your repeated last line works very well. I'm interested if your final verse reflects your own beliefs or are poetic license. I must just say that life doesn't always seem fleeting and also your outlook on time changes with aging. My own view is that when we're dead it's the 'real deal'. No sleep, no dreams, no reunions! That's it!
On that happy note we must make the most of what you've got.
Lang may yer lum reek!

Don't fret over the small stuff, for life is far too short. Like where you went with this poem Gee. Our time on this planet is fleeting in the overall picture. Hope all is well.

Hi Chris, all great.. in the Maldives:))....paradise.
Hope you are well.
Thanks
reminds me a bit of Dickinson's "Because i could not stop for death" which i saw as a woman living her life in such a hurry all the time that she never stopped long enough to enjoy any of it.
and Death came calling to take her on a journey, one in which she would see that she had to slow down and smell the roses...
excellent poem here.
great message.
it does all go too fast...we can't just ignore it.

Always remember being in the maths class, clock-watching, wondering why time went in so slow.
Now I day watch wondering why time is flying by. Mind you, when you see Easter eggs in the stores, that could explain it.
