The half a century ago young boy

The half a century ago young boy

A Poem by Gee
"

A winter walk with the pooch

"
Tis cold and still this winter morn'
and no matter how I'm wrapped,
my bones are invaded by the chill
and my lips are dry and chapped.
Dew drops drip from my reddened nose
ear lobes, frost bitten, burn,
oh how I long for spring to come
and for the warmth of sun I yearn.
But this of little consequence
if any consequence at all,
to my spaniel racing here and there
in pursuit of his far flung ball.
For everyday is the best of days
come rain or shine or hail,
and this he proclaims with excited barks
and the wagging of his tail.
Endless is his energy,
boundless is the joy,
that rekindles in this ageing man
the half a century ago young boy...

I love the simple joy of this structure and content. As someone who has never had a canine companion, you helped me for a moment to feel this special kind of love. Thank you.

Thank you..
Know the feeling, our three year old dog Holly, Springer/Border Collie cross, is so full of energy, that despite my half century is still a reasonable way off, it tires me out just watching her.

Charlie of course, has no such problem, he is boundless.

A lovely and gorgeously descriptive poem.

Beccy.

Thank you. Not a clue where the ideas spring from, guess I must have an idle mind :)
I love your family pic! Great share! I hate to break it to ya, but that's snot on the end of your nose, hunny! *heh! heh! heh!* This poem paints a scene to show why walking the dogs is so therapeutic, luring us out of our usual whiny pissy frumpy moods! I stopped taking antidepressants in my 40's & now I rely fully on my dogs to snap me out of it daily! This is an awesome poem with all the zeal & intensity, both for the doldrums & for the recovery phase. Great turn-around! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This is a lovely romp through the simplicity and focus of the dog. They have a lot to teach us about the beauty and wonder of the world just in the way they devour each day and approach experience with abandon.

Your scene does remind me of the carefree, energetic romps through childhood days. The sense that time would keep stretching on forever in front of us and it was just for us to let the days wash over us and live them as fully as we could.

Enjoyed this walk and travel back in time, Gee. It’s lovely work.

Hi Eilis, apologies for the late reply.
Thank you kindly
I would say you and me both with all the rain we have had up here in the Heelands but I still find the side of a rain soaked mountain beautiful.
Now, the poem. A lyrical, pastorale wish that hopefully will soon be fulfilled and simple it ain't.
I'd mention the dog but one of mine just fell through a cattle grid and cost me an arm and leg down the emergency vets. Always at weekend.

You know those pooches can sure lighten your mood. They get so excited when it's time for walkies. I sort of wish I could get excited over nothing too ) Doesn't all that boundless energy wear you down? That's before you've even left home. A dog I am told can keep your weight in check. Good morning Gee.
