As silently as death itself.

As silently as death itself.

A Poem by Gee
"

The first frost of winter

"
Daylight came with silence
the world now dusted white,
Jack had worked his magic
under cover of the night.

Stencilling onto windows
feathered, crystalled fronds
whilst below on cills, motionless
lay tiny frozen ponds.

And hedgerows, sparkled, glistened,
lit by a watered light,
the spiders toils woven there
iced doilies, what a sight.

A bird then pierced the silence
and a shiver through me sent
as it mourned the passing seasons
with a haunting, shrill lament.

Oh man it works! Beautiful classical work with not a foot put wrong. A singing, descriptive piece of poetry

Hi John, cheers.
Hope you are keeping well
Simple and elegant, it's perfect. I found this poem because it was listed as a "related writing" at the bottom of one of my own poems. I'm flattered by the correlation, like "people who like your poem have really great taste in poetry". You really crafted greatness here.

I love your descriptive words about the snowflakes on the windows (frost) and the intricate designs. When I clicked on this, I was expecting a bit more somber (as the name might suggest) but this definitely worked. Though I wish I could have seen that cold tone to describe... Well... The cold.

Thank you Samael
The third stanza.... it's lovely. I don't particularly care for the rest but that third stanza makes this poem an A+.

You have an essence to your writing that is easily picked up by most people but not easily copied by them. You're a high quality writer in a non-obvious way.... which is pretty much the hardest thing you can do. Well done. You're still an a*****e.

aye, it works, a lovely painted scene as the coming winter draws us in, reading this in front of a toasty fire, snowblind view from window, lol

Thanks Gram. Best place to view snow is from a comfy chair through a window :)
Seasons bring memories, especially the loss of loved ones. For several years, nearly every close family member I lost died in January, and that made winter even worse. To this day, I despise winter, and January is when I dive deep into blackness. The weather you describe here might be pretty from inside, but the bitter cold in that white ice brings another coldness when we think of the last season spent with a lost loved one. A good write that brings the living a little closer together though sharing.
