The colour of love

The colour of love

A Poem by Gee
"

Domestic abuse

"
Look at you you poor ol' thing
does it hurt, do they sting,
is it love that paints your skin
that draws those colours from within.

Will you when he begs and pleads,
forgiveness sought on bended knees,
tell him that you understand
'twas fermented malt that raised his hand.

And of course you know he'll never again,
(until of course he does it again)
so the roses wrapped in week old news
will ease the pain of every bruise.

These fading 'til none there to see
unblemished skin, scarred memory,
fears shared with self, reflected back,
of when not if, his next attack

Abuse not to be tolerated. The coward on bended knees! Sad but true in this fast-moving world!

Thanks Augustus
3rd stanza, second line, Insert an "it" after "he does... again". The "it" makes the meter kinda line up with the previous line as well as line up with the word "week" on the following line in a poetic way I can't properly explain at the moment.

Nice word play overall though. I like how it reads up and down. It's kinda dark because, domestic abuse is always dark but it was a pleasure to read phonetically.

Thank you ( again) Dave
Change made, thank you.
Sad but true, watched this close up as a boy, a very tender way of describing an ugly truth, respect

It’s sad that this is so common, but it deserves to be written about, and I love the way you’ve constructed your writing. Love can blind a person and won’t let them see how dangerous a situation is, you’ve expressed that wonderfully and evoked a different emotion in each line.

Thank you Daniela
Wow, this was really great! I felt a real sense of the character and couldn't help explore the idea of what is must be like to be the narrator, too. Knowing and caring, but still sarcastic or pessimistic. That's how it feels, at least. Enjoyed it

Thank you ..
The contrast of the sing song cadence with the wretched is splendid. The rhyme flow and gentle sardonic wit is graceful as well the inference to your intentions. I like this write style very much... the subject matter is a difficult one to express but you did it so well. Tip of the bunny's fedora to you on this one MR. Gee :)

Thank you..
Hard to understand some things. Dear Mother, was abused for year. She did escape after many years of abuse. I felt the words written dear friend. Women need safe havens. My mother went to one. Thank you for sharing the powerful and needed words.

Having been around plenty of abuse thru-out life, your poem really tells the story in a perfectly honest way . . . how those decisions are made to stay or not to stay, etc. Good rhyme & rhythm which seems to add to a false sense of joviality, that fake smile, everything will be better now. Great poem! So true to life (sadly!) Fondly, Margie
