Long after...

Long after...

A Poem by Gee
"

Lifetime memories made ( please read, if only for the back story.)

"
Long after the slow walk down the aisle,
long after their vows exchanged,
long after confetti, popping corks
and photos, just so arranged.

Long after the feasting, speeches and tears,
long after their very first dance,
long after the party, meticulously planned
with nothing at all left to chance.

Each one that attended will never forget,
with smiles will ever recall,
the marriage of Nick to the beautiful Grace
in the grounds of old Fawsley Hall.

Back story:
Grace is the daughter of two of our closest friends and attended our wedding as a soon to be born baby ( 25 years ago). Aged 14 she was diagnosed with brain cancer. Whilst undergoing treatment for this, Grace informed her mum that if she survived she would train to be a nurse, so that she too could help folk in their hour of need. True to her word, after leaving school Grace studied nursing, eventually training and passing all exams and then further studying so as to be able to administer the life saving care she herself had received.
At present Grace is working as a community nurse.
A truly beautiful, inspirational young lady.

Hi Gee. I read this one a while back and did not comment because I thought it was a narrow - not shallow mind you- piece of writing, good for exactly what it was but not overlapping those boundaries. I didn't want to say that to you. Now when I come back to it I see I was pretty gutless and you certainly knew what you were doing and didn't care if the poem never got selected for some Great Big Fat Anthology of American Poetry. Now I realize that an arrow is narrow; it's an arrow's function to be sharp and to the point. Thank you for sharing, forgive my tardiness in speaking to you about your fine work.

Gee,
I read this with an awareness of the beauty of living. What do we do with our minutes? To be aware of potential as this young woman Grace'. Is an inspiration. Do we see ourselves as others do? It is so hard sometimes to see through others eyes.Thank you for sharing this. It was very special.
Your last two lines:
"At present Grace is working as a community nurse.
A truly beautiful, inspirational young lady."
And remembered by you and shared here.
Blessings,
Kathy

Your welcome Gee and I wish you more of these gems of awareness of good. Blessings,

this poem is magic...promises kept...doesn't happen enough...and giving back for what she went through and survived...instead of feeling sorry for herself, feeling she owed something...she sounds like a really great person.

Wow! Another great poem, Gee! My middle daughter was married on 12/30. Snowed like crazy as bride and groom took off to Boston in my car. 18 years later . . . all goes well.
Thanks for the read.
Oh . . . also wanted to say . . . a great title too.

Moi Aussie, can't wait.
'Each one that attended will never forget, - with smiles will ever recall, - the marriage of Nick to the beautiful Grace - in the grounds of old Fawsley Hall.'

What a beautifully and proudly worded poem, Gee! Your line by line phrasing somehow subtly built the event and made is so very special What a wonderful young woman.. courageous and undoubtedly lovely on her wedding day. Many best wishes to her, her new husband, her once worred to wotsit parents and all those and others who shared their day.

PS Her name was always meant to be Grace.

Thanks Gee for sharing with us. Every so often we come across these special people who seem to shine a light. I guess that adversity can forge something stronger. Apart from the story you have written about this young lady very well and sensitively.
All the best,
Alan
