Somebody's Daughter

Somebody's Daughter

A Poem by Gee
"

Isn't every woman special no matter the life choices they make.

"
A few came to unburden themselves
seeking nothing but an ear and dry shoulder,
as they knew that here, in her rented room with cheap peeling paper,
mildewed skirting and threadbare carpet
secrets would be held as safe as in any confessional.
Others came to act out long held fantasies,
fantasies perhaps frowned upon by their wife, girlfriend,
or perhaps never discussed, as these viewed as taboo by society.
And then there were the lonely, the shy,
those who only ever experienced laptop intimacy behind drawn curtains
in badly lit bedrooms, believing porn to be reality.
But all that visited had one thing in common,
they gave no thought to the woman, the daughter,
the person to whom they were at their most open, honest, intimate with.
Because in their eyes her only worth the payment left before leaving.

This is a very special tribute to all the women who are frowned upon for a million reasons (& men, too). Recently an actor from the Bill Cosby show (he was a kid back then) grew up & was working in a grocery store. He was shamed online for doing this kind of work after being a famous actor. So it can go in all directions. But you've used special details that describe the kind of acceptance that many are seeking, more than the actual physical encounter that they pay for. You've got this exactly right & I very much love your authentic way of seeing & painting people (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

When I read this I kept thinking of that saying 'there but for the grace of God go I'. Many of these women prostitute themselves to feed a drug habit, or even feed their kids. It is all about choices, and most of us can make sensible ones which won't put our lives at risk, but others don't. They provide a service but are often abused, being beaten up and unpaid. You've got to be pretty desperate to go down that path. Thought provoking writing. Good morning Gee.

Hi Christine, all good. Thanks
Two bits?!? I hope it's the 1890s, because if not, she is unbelievably cheap!
That being said, I thought you did very well in this writing. I particularly liked this part:
the lonely, the shy,
those who only ever experienced laptop intimacy behind drawn curtains,
in badly lit bedrooms, believing porn to be reality.

That's a sad but accurate picture, I'm sure, of many, these days.
Uh-oh. That means it's NOT the 1890s... tell me, Gee, have you been inundated with requests for this woman's address? I thought so...

Indeed Jacob.
Hope all is well with yiu, cheers
This made me feel very sad indeed, or rather the ending did.. yes, of course, they/all women should be valued, and it must also be remembered that very often, the lifestyle one leads is not necessarily down to a matter of choice, but tis very often a matter of survival or otherwise imposed.. You did good here Gee... oh and I aint never gonna wear a frock again.... N

I am doing okay and you are welcome my friend.
its an important piece you started Gee ...we are all somebodys' somebody ... selfishness and lust are a particularly destructive duo says i! they become an addiction ... on line, on screen, in books and mags .. way over the line of artistic celebration of love and sex ... i have two daughters and two sons .. your poem raises my father's concerns for all of them ..tho they are in middle age ... if we stopped to think we would shut the industry down wouldn't we ...and the telling of abuse made more welcome ... i hate to think of my daughters not telling me right away ... if they were attacked and raped ... i am interested to read where you go with this one Gee .. tho it is potent enough as is .. i was to engaged to have a thought about rhyme, rhythm etc.

So true Gee. Pre judgement, guilty before being heard, which they won't be anyway, because of me me me attitudes and ignorance. Your words truly resonate in this piece.
Whatever happened to not judging, listening and treating people like human beings.
They are all someones daughter indeed. More should remember that.
