Teacups And Tears

Teacups And Tears

A Poem by Gee
"

An oldie given an airing

"
Time, the great healer had done no such thing.
His home had become a shrine,
her photos adorning walls
and every dust covered surface.
He celebrated birthdays, anniversaries,
with her memory,
a table for two in their favourite restaurant,
two glasses of red poured.
Waiters would ask as to his partners arrival,
he would smile,
continue his conversation oblivious to the stares.
Back home he would comfy himself,
feet warm in slippers,
slippers that sat nestled aside hers when not worn,
these beneath her summer coat in the hallway.
With a whisky in hand he would pore over letters, albums,
watch, re watch, over and over badly shot film,
weddings, birthdays, Christmas'.
Always there was laughter, a smile on her face.
When wearied he would kiss goodnight her wedding day face,
tell her that he loved her,
would see her in the morning.

In the kitchen two teacups, side by side,
sat readied for breakfast.

Very poignant, Gee.

I personally know of someone like this. Who lost their life love and through the passing of time has constructed what can only be described as a shrine to their beloved in the home. I guess it is just a way to keep their memory alive and ever present for the grieving doesn't really ever end.

A profoundly sad write. But one very relevant for many. Nicely done.

Thank you Doodley..
Monumentally sad. When a spouse dies and the one who is left never forgets...can not forget. The image of the two teacups, the two pairs of slippers, the two wine glasses......they are so vivid and meaningful. Gee, this is beautifully emotional. Lydi**

Lol...almost!
I am not the biggest fan of things that do not have intensive rhyming... You changed that, mate... You write like a pro... Seriously... I might as well be slipping my bunny slippers on and talking to myself till dust perpetrates my sanity... Right along with him... The slightly maniac edge... Nestled in comforting warmth of remembrance... Beautiful...

Thank you, Gee... Ditto, friend, and a wonderful write...
This is the poster child for "SHOW instead of tell"!!! I can see everything & your details are so well chosen & stated with a poignant simplicity. Anyone knows what this person is going thru, even tho you don't spell it out as such. That's the magic of excellent writing! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
