The Unpalatable Andy Warhol

The Unpalatable Andy Warhol

A Poem by Gee
"

Funny what irritates eh ???

"
It wasn't the poor service
or warm wine served in lipstick stained glasses,
that was annoying but acceptable, kinda.
Nor was it the overly al dente veg
served in chipped dishes,
that I get at home, am used to, although not fond of.
The couple to my left that bickered constantly,
voices rising with each glass added to their bill
were irksome, tiring even,
but they were paying for the privilege, so...
No, It was none of these.
It was actually the Andy Wahol esque artwork
directly over my wife's right shoulder,
the colours clashing badly with her over priced,
multi coloured chiffon blouse,
although the picture itself not the cause of my growing annoyance.
No, it was the fact that this artwork was hung,
fixed, out of level.
Why ?
Surely to God if I could see this the staff could,
yet there it was,
slightly askew and ruining my meal.

Oh, lord. I'm a picture framer by trade and I think you just wrote my personal anthem. I've developed facial tics over less. My husband may or may not have needed to physically restrain me to keep me from straightening the damn things myself.

Thanks for the chuckle, very much enjoyed your poem!

Interesting read .... you have painted the scene well, capturing the parts of the meal, the staff, the restaurant

Thank you..
You have succeeded in turning an unpleasant restaurant visit into interesting reading. I can understand a crooked painting being the most difficult part of the experience to filter out.

I think you could be more concise. Do you need 'that was' at the beginning of the 13th line? Does it matter which one of your wife's shoulders the artwork was hanging directly over?

Again thank you
Appears to me as if you have some legitimate beefs, here.
Askew Andy-Warhol-esque artwork is certainly difficult to bear--almost as much as properly hung Warhol "artwork."
Most entertaining!

This is rather like an old-fashioned flicker books.. pages that you run through your finger/thumb to produce movement ??? You've given little vignettes (right word?) of this or that in the restaurant which means the reader has to peep, imagine, enjoy... then as quickly as... move onto yet another scene until.. that glorious finish Clever you, Gee. again. That's one place i won't be going to.. arghh!

Haha, that's interesting. Dunno much about Warhol; would've sure been quite an artist though. A light-hearted piece!
