Dusted off for the festive season.....Over priced, over rated, and coming to you in the very near future.....
Christmas is coming
the Easter eggs are out,
" book your summer holidays "
travel agents shout.
Buy a leather three piece
get a foot stool free,
everywhere you turn
there's a place to buy a tree.
Inflatable santas,
reindeer with red noses,
florists selling wreaths
and dead expensive roses.
Supermarkets crammed
trolleys overflowing,
bank accounts empty
overdrafts growing.
Parties in the office
inhibitions dumped,
grown men crying
secretary's humped.
Pantomime season
" behind you" shout the kids,
" Z “ list stars
whose careers have hit the skids.
Joseph, Mary, Jesus
why's it their big day
aren't they just characters
in the primary school play ?
Christmas is coming
we'll pay for it next year,
kids getting way to much
nothing now too dear.
I love your no-nonsense description of the typical holidays steeped in materialistic obsession. This is why I do NOT participate in the madness . . . no decorations, never had a tree, etc. What makes your message especially sardonic is your final stanza . . . very few people have the nerve to mock the "real reason for the season"!! I love your sassy ways & this really hits my funny bone. Good rhyme & rhythm thru-out! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Take care
Another Christmas is around the corner and after these many years, nothing seems changed. The celebration of Christ's Birthday borders on the ostentatious and the vulgar. I struggle to find meaning in it and be different. I appreciate your writing this, very much.

I think this is the first poem that I posted way back in 2014.
Thank you for finding
So this is the very first one you submitted and although the theme is Christmas I read it...just so I do not miss any of your submissions..
Really fun poem...enjoyed it..

We have a store here that sells Christmas year round. How depressing is that? Seems like Christmas means less every year. One day perhaps, I won't bother anymore. Well written
'Christmas is coming'
Gee,
Hmmm....I suppose that life is full of different interpretations of every experience and event. You have a point that above mentioned are not what this special season is all about. I understand too that it can be a lonely time for many. I appreciated you piece as it portrayed the reality for me that Christ-mas is so beautiful.
Blessings to you this New Year.

ah ah
(at least ten characters, nagging machine!!)
I found this through the discovery and I am so happy I did. I think a good few of us can relate to having a disliking for the holiday madness. I particularly enjoy seeing the transition from "happy holidays" to "here's the reality of the situation." Very blunt yet well-written. Nice job!
The truth in this poem is sad but true. Christmas is not about the celebration of the birth of God, but the anticipation of the reception of gifts, parties, and celebrations. Now, Jesus is the savior of the world from sin, a celebration is in order for that! Characters in a story are what all history is when it comes down to it unless we have some connection to the figures. I enjoyed this poem and its message.

It is my pleasure. I look forward to exploring your writings.
Yes, we commercialize everything. We have gone to what I like to call an old fashioned Christmas everything must me made, baked or regifted ( which means something you have you know the other person wants). I love when we do it that way. It's a lot of fun as we celebrate Christ's birth.

Back to basics, sounds good. Well still be eating Easter eggs on boxing day though.
Thank you
