Field Of Dreams

Field Of Dreams

A Poem by Devons

The dandelions watch

but their vigil lasts not long

by comparison of Man

though his is nothing

to tree and to stone

From a branch once hung thieves

atop the tower, archers

in the field laid lovers

different lives, different eras

different deaths, different tortures

The view is unchanged

through hundreds of years

though now it's fenced-in

a sea of grassed memories

of blood, sweat, and tears

But modern eyes are blind

to the time that has passed

of the fighting, the living

giving, taking, loving

just to know their existence won't last

And the tower still stands

by the tree, in the field

of long-gone dreams, unseen

lived-out now, it seems

but new hearts will come, and will yield

Perfect score from me. I loved how this poem showed that no matter how much humanity may "evolve" and "mature" warfare will never change. Weapons will change, people will change but the land itself does not. For millions if not billions of years we have been fighting over the same piece of land. At least that is how I interpreted it! Astonishing!

I usually don't just read the first thing I see, but "Field of Dreams" and that picture... I'm thinking Heaven and those Dandelions are out of her in one bite.
But what a nicely done serious poem that spans the ages.
IfI was human, and I once was, I'd want to be one of the Archers!

Every line of this flashed a new image in my minds eye. How beautifully you have put to words that which the tower has witnessed. Incredibly touching and beautiful.

The view is unchanged
through hundreds of years
though now it's fenced-in
a sea of grassed memories
of blood, sweat, and tears

These lines spoke to me most. True of any place that has been developed over the last few hundred years. How quickly the past is forgotten. Well done!

Breathtakingly BeautifulL!!!~ so lovely in every way

this truly is; your profound verse takes the reader to

another place and time and back again, such warm serene images

sprinkled thru~out this piece~with rich poetic expression

This is a beautiful piece. I agree with Ashley, it reads like scenes changing before your eyes each one replacing the memory of the one before it. Eventually the ones in the beginning are all forgotten. This has a very calming and thoughtful feel to it. Shows a little bit of a softer side of you :)

This is fantastic! I love this idea. See, we don't have places like this in the states. Our history isn't nearly as rich... I can picture it like a movie, each scene important to the characters, and each scene forgotten by the next... And the only thing that stands still is the tower, watching everything happen. It reminds me of the phrase, "If walls could talk, oh the stories they would tell us."
Fantastic poem, really. I love this! :D
