The sadiM Touch

The sadiM Touch

A Poem by Devons

King of spirit
King of feeling
he was crowned one day
and all was gold.
Regent of discovery
and princely success
he found it one day
but could he possess?

One day, in horror
he found a new trick
that all that was gold
at his touch, became brick
decayed in his hand
the gold turned to sand
the substance the same
but only in name.

He once fell in love
the deep riches that flowed there!
He dived in and swam
and he sailed on its ocean
But he stayed out too long
and dashing the notion
of affection's perfection
he drowned his emotion.

And with fear he had realised
that all was a fallacy
this magic, his making
an ill-getting malady
Discovery, success
love, sex, and happiness
all just grains of dust
that the others may trust.

But it wasn't for him
a reformed, special King
Ideas as reality
all death to His Highness!
Look too close and as such
you can see far too much
or not see at all
and be blurred into blindness.

It is said that the Sadim touch is the opposite of the Midas touch, but I disagree. In both cases the object touched is rendered useless. One can be surrounded by gold or sand. Either way, he is surrounded but alone. Like your presentation of the title...one who has this touch can proclaim himself "Sad-I-am". It is my opinion that those who have this touch often times have it of their own accord.

Excellent piece of writing.

And all that we ask for and all we desire must come at our bidding as flame out of fire, to experience is to learn, we have to experience then suffer, lesson learnt, a great poem, I will read this several times :). Moonbeam.

"the substance the same
but only in name."
and
"Look too close and as such
you can see far too much
or not see at all
and be blurred into blindness."

The metaphorical meanings in this really caught me by suprise, I half expected this poem to be literal, though I don't know why.
These were beautiful and wonderous words to read. I love this.
The poem seems very wise and lesson-teaching.
Very good write! Unique flow!
Keep writing!

I love love love the last stanza. I love the fable-like feel of it, it reminds me a bit of Lewis Carroll because it sets up a story and you feel the moral coming ... but the moral that arrives is very King Solomon, very Ecclesiastes ... all is foolishness. But is it? Is the gift of the knowledge of gold into dust enough? You've got rhythm in this that lulls the reader into a sense of rationality and comfort, but the revelation stands in contrast to that, and so is even more effective. Great poem.

...Wonderful poem; did he know what he is doing? Did he know when he does what he did - that he will be paying? Or why do we speak about him? Who wants to know? I mean - everybody deserves something. I mean, what is this all about? 80 years later after him -- words.. which he has not written......... nobody knows! Ppl study history, they know that just elite of few were able to write. What is this about.. I ask myself. I am ruthless, I know, I do not have respect for anybody. I am an anarchist. Nevertheless, we go to the 2nd stanza: "One day, in horror
he found a new trick
that all that was gold
at his touch, became brick
decayed in his hand
the gold turned to sand
the substance the same
but only in name." --------so, it was trick, as the poet says. Mostly of us know, it was a trick (they never stopped to appear, tricks magic..etc)

I love the clear literary essence of this poem. I love, that someone - did think for me.
I think, this was written to make me think (like, whatever I believe, I am now forced to be careful.)

Oh yes, oh yes.. he drown and he swam..
But what was different 2000 years ago?
Can we walk on water? We can, when under the surface of the ocean is a wooden board. But how could I prove this.. Everybody can make his own magic: The point is, who believes without experiencing it?

Well, many do. I respect. But me personally - I do not believe what I can't experience. And then, I write about it. This was the supreme classical verse. I liked that. I ask: who is the audience? I really would like to know.

You're good at giving a harsher, more realistic touch to old stories. Nice work on this one and clever title.

Nice turn-a-round with the King Midas touch ...and using love rather than gold...
This is well written and reads easily .. no trip-ups .. just words that make us think .. and has some melancholia added.

Enjoyed it ..
