A Place In The SunA Poem by DevonsI drove through there once I don’t remember why But I remember the sunshine, A café, a pub I remember a river, There were strawberries There was cream I remember we were laughing We were in love - Now they’re building a by-pass.
It’s just a memory, that day Like all things, like all places Like all people, all faces I remember hers, it was smiling In the sun, now it’s done. We didn’t stop, we just laughed We just looked and passed through “We must remember this place” I remember her face In the sun, by the river In love.
It’s a part of my life that’s gone, that day And that place is my memory of her It’s a curse to remember It’s a curse to forget It’s still there Like a place in the sun.
We never went back there, you see, never once We passed on, as we laughed, in the sun It was probably noisy, with traffic and life We never went back, never stopped, life goes on And I don’t want to go there again. “We don’t want that road passing through here no more The noise, the traffic, always someone gets hurt” They never knew about us, on that day, in the sun Now they’re building a by-pass. © 2015 DevonsReviews
