Bleeding Is No Kill

Bleeding Is No Kill

A Poem by Devons

It breaks but isn't broken
It sinks but doesn't drown
the damage often spoken
the pain, a different sound.

It beats but doesn't batter
It flies but has no wings
the mind succumbs to matter
where the angel flutter sings.

It cracks but doesn't crumble
It lives but always dies
love is just a fumble
grasping through the lies.

It wins but always loses
It stops but often starts
at the shocks and many bruises
of the sum of many parts.

It's lost but never leaves
It's dead but doesn't die
magic in how it breathes
tragic now its sigh.

Full of blood, it bleeds
Yet the bleeding is no kill
Its endless needs it feeds
the bending to its will.

But it's just another piece
in the function of the whole
This heart will one day cease
but never seize the soul.

I should have read this first out of your collection. I think this was brilliantly written and I mean that. I like to write rhyme and meter, but it can seem like torture unless you are in that mode for some time.
Yes, the soul. The sum of who we are, not the flesh puppet we pull the strings on daily. I wrote something once on the same subject and the base matter of who we truly are fascinates me. Great work! CD

So, will the brain cease one day, yet we love its trappings :)
but the soul never does seize indeed...

Very well thought and poignant as always.

Thank you, my friend. And very good to hear from you here again.
Who knew Gollum was such a softie?

Cool, I like your trademark badda-bing parallelism, it gives your work a cerebral, timeless quality. Your craft impresses as does your sentiment, in equal measure

Thanks very much indeed. Always pleased when someone reads and reviews with intelligence.
How happy am I to have stumbled upon your work! This is just splendid. The lines easily bleed into another, ending with the ever-emerging soul, which shall always rise like a phoenix to live anew. Excellent!

people do everything they can to destroy our heart...but the heart is so strong...it just keeps beating...but is the soul stronger...yes, it will outlive the heart...when the whole dies...there is a force even stronger that keeps us going on and on...that soul of us...that essence...and as poets we hope to leave that imprint.

Exactly. But people always talk of the heart - whereas it is the soul that is effected, the heart is.. read more
