Romancing the Sea

Romancing the Sea

A Poem by Gaynor Lewis

At the bottom of the lane, lies a captivating view

A horseshoe bay of water, in a sea of deepest blue.

This paradise for dreamers, each enchanted by this place

Where the waves lap so softly at the rugged, rough rock face

Of the cliffs that soar upwards, noble towers, sharp and steep

Sink down, embracing waters, tasting secrets of the deep

Stealing foamy wet kisses, from her salty, surf-drenched lips

Which ride on each crest-tipped wave, with pouting silvery tips.

They yield to their feelings, on the sands, soft and pleasant

Bewitched by the seas love song, sung in this bleached, beach crescent.

Her serene, tranquil beauty glistens, sparkling in sunlight

But her darkness is disguised, under this beautiful sight.

Her anger shows no mercy, when she takes this frightful form

And her song turns to thunder, in a violent, forceful storm.

High waves tumble, crash and thrash, with hatred, ire and wrath

And mercilessly destroy, those caught trapped inside their path.

Savage waters melody, claps of thunder fill the air

Then suddenly it is over, as though never really there.

Back to calm, peaceful waters whose beauty is concealing

Cruel rages of passion, pent up and un- revealing.

The cliffs drink stolen kisses, from her fresh, wet lips once more

In this turbulent romance, of the sea and the sea shore.
