A Woman who Loved

A Woman who Loved

A Poem by Gaurav
"

a love story

"
'Why did i fall for you?'
- asked a woman who only loved
a guy who fought for a nation
and upon getting retired
got immersed in alcohol

'Why don't i feel anything, dear?'
- asked the guy who desperately tried to love
but failed miserably each time,
instead he adored sadness
and lived in regret as he witnessed civilians
who prospered in money, greed and lust

'Why don't you instead focus on me, and beauty, love?'
- asked the woman who could not see him failing
in spirit and soul,
she reached out to him in dark
to make him see a tiny bit of light
but she knew that there was no life left

so she loved unconditionally
to the man she always loved
and worshiped lords to grant him death
if life is not he is after

A man broken in spirit after the trauma of warfare. Only his wife would see the suffering he was enduring. To wish him death to end his suffering, tells me how much she loves him. She would suffer hugely herself for his sweet release. from pain. I guess this would be relatable to many who have a veteran in the family suffering from ptsd. Beautifully composed and heartfelt.

thank you for your kind words
This is some of the most unique writing I've read in a long time. I love how you set this up with just one short line of dialogue for each verse, followed by a long description of where this person is coming from -- a technique one might think would be clunky, but it's done so well, it kinda takes my breath away. You give just enuf for us to get a fulsome picture of what's going on between these two & it summons so much more which the reader may have experienced in life, since everyone knows someone who lost his/her spirit after being in war.

The final verse is a little stunning, since granting a loved one the right to want to escape from a tortured life is not something most people would say, even if they might secretly think it. I love writing that addresses the elephant in the room, so I applaud you for your blunt honesty in the last verse. Happy new year! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Incredibly powerful piece Gaurav...sometimes love is not plain sailing and the tides immerse throughout the process. We can only love someone, not save them I believe, we can however have moments of raising their steps while we patiently wait to lovingly catch them in their falls also...very emotionally moving poem :)

Thanks a lot Ruth
Sometimes life just disappoints and love with all its might and power desperately tries to draw the man back to its beauty. But sometimes the pieces are too finely fringed to record. That's when we say all our strings broke. I like your work. It's simple and enriched with feelings

I try and I'll keep trying I'm not giving up I'm not the type to just walk away and give up
PTSD lives on long after the events that caused it. Perhaps unconditional love could hope for merciful death for one lost deep in suffering.

Thank you John...yes you have written the truth
love this read...unconditional love loves for the heart, for the insides of the other, not for monetary worth, or achievements...we are not judged in the end for what we have or what we have amassed in rewards...it is the kindness and love within us...and sometimes we just cannot see that.
