CHAPTER 3 :

THE CYCLOPS GOLEM CHASE

Despite the floor becoming increasingly ustable, Nyluss kept his eyes on Jardran as he elevated higher into the air. The air outside began to grow colder and pick up in speed, gusting into the house which was beginning to fall apart, board by wooden board.

Nyluss held on tightly to the spider device as he was knocked hard onto the floor. Noticing the floorboards beginning to splintere and shatter, he rose to his feet and rushed to the front entrance, nearly being crushed by the house as its walls began to fall to the ground.

The mountaintop still trembled as Nyluss looked at the old tree in front of the lowering sun. Nyluss held onto his hat as the tree rose slightly and then fell to the ground as the ground split apart underneath it. Jardran now could be seen hovering over where the house once stood, his arms outstretched and his head lifted to the sky. The clouds thickened and blocked the view of the setting sun as the splitting ground blew chunks of earth into the air, knocking Nyluss again to the ground.

Still holding onto the spider, Nyluss stood and saw what he feared most. The mighty hand of the golem giant began rising from the ground, followed by another, then bursting from out of the ground in a great explosion of power was the golem Jardran spoke of. Nyluss took in a deep breath as he looked into the eye of the Cyclops golem that dwelled withing the grass covered mountain.

Rushing to the hover-car, Nyluss opened the door, threw in the spider device, and sat at the controls, starting the vehicle with the sound of his voice. Nyluss backed the car up quickly just before the mighty fist of the Cyclops impacted the ground before him, causing the car, despite hovering over a foot off of the ground, to shake and slide sideways out of control, then coming to a halt.

Nyluss frowned and saw in the rear-view interior monitor screen that Jardran was flying beside the Cyclops, who was now pulling itself completely out of the mountain top. Knowing that no matter what happened next, Jadran was the target, not the Cyclops. Nyluss knew he could not lose sight of Jardran, or the past two years of searching for him would be pointless, and it would surely take him several years, if not more to find him again should he lose track of him.

Quickly formulating a plan in his young mind, Nyluss knew he had little chance of defeating a hundred foot tall Cyclops golem, and at the moment he also knew he had to take advantage of Jardran's mistake. Nyluss smiled. You stand and fight when you should be running. How about I take you and your little friend on a cat and mouse chase?

Blasting away down the crumbling mountain, Nyluss sped clear of the Cyclops and Jardran, who instantly began their chase after him. The sound of the Cyclop's massive footsteps grew closer and louder as the long strides of the golem gave the Cyclops an advantage. Leaping into the air and landing in front of the car, the Cyclops lifted his thick arms and began swinging them downwards.

Nyluss quickly turned the car to the left, narrowly dodging the pounding of the Cyclop's mighty fists as they slammed powerfully into the ground. The impact created enough energy to thrust the hover-car into the air and flip over several times before Nyluss regained control over the ground, blasting away.

Checking his rear-view monitor, Nyluss saw the Cyclops turn and begin running after him, growing angrier. Pushing the car's power to its limits, Nyluss chose not to look at the rear-view monitor again, but concentrate on the road. The golem may have a large stride, but he knew it would soon tire, and then he would be in a better position to confront Jadran, who flew at the Cyclop's side in the chase.

The flat plains were now beginning to merge with a forest, with small and thin trees littering the landscape, but Nyluss had been through this forest before and knew how thick and dense its deep interior could get. He had little choice but to enter and use the forest's thick body as an advantage for himself against the much larger golem. Passing tree after tree that grew taller and wider the deeper he went into the forest, Nyluss told the car to turn on its forward, sides, and rear lights, for with the sun dropping, the forest was an abyss of darkness.

Pounding the ground with his heavy footsteps, the Cyclops was gaining on Nyluss, who could also hear and see trees being uprooted and thrown out of the golem's way as he managed to reach the car and swipe at it, attempting to grab it in its hands, and roaring loudly at each failed attempt.

Once again Nyluss smiled as he ordered the car to open the door. As the door opened he grabbed the spider device and gave the car another quick command. "Keep going!" Nyluss jumped out of the speeding car, and landed uncontrollably on the ground, rolling forever it seemed before he collided with a thick tree which knocked the breath out of him.

The hover-car darted out of sight, with the Cyclops and Jardran rushing ignorantly after the driverless vehicle. Nyluss shook his head. "Idiots." But his plan had worked and he quickly thought of what to do next. He looked at the spider device and pressed a blinking red button on the belly of the device which powered it on.

Nyluss reached into one of his belt compartments and removed a small device with a wide screen on it, and turned it on. The screen displayed four seperate screen blocks, all of them feeding from the monitors on the hover-car as it continued to race away from the Cyclops. Nyluss spoke his commands into the device. "Head towards Mons Trench!" He ordered the car.

Seeing the car pass blindingly past the trees in the forest, in no time it seemed the car had reached the trench. "Stop!"

He looked on as the hover-car came to an abrupt stop, and a second later the Cyclops tried to stop its momentum, but couldn't as it fell off of the the edge of Mons Trench, which dropped thousands and thousands of feet into darkness and certain death.

Jardran could be seen in hovering in front of the car looking down into the darkness of the trench. Nyluss wasted no time. "Fire the containment beams!" The car shot out a blue and purple bolt of energy that surrounded Jadran in an orbed prison.

Without hesitation, Nyluss sprinted forward. A captured soul awaited him.
