Building Blocks

Building Blocks

A Poem by Gastroc.
"

friends vs family

"

Best friends is a sandbox term
the playmate with a mom
my mom's age
"you've got light up sneakers too?"
and ever since
school-age
the perception of what this person does
is misconstrued
relationships formed on common interests
most always fail
for a best friend is not someone
you're always with
but a person who is there
throughout
and doesn't look out for own interests
but why has it taken
a quarter of my life
to figure out?
we as humans create ourselves, as if mirrors,
in our associates
but with an honest gaze we come to realize
we never like what we see anyway
so to all the catty,
insecure,
ladies who i made me
and they made they:
this is a foundation they'd claim
condemned
and yell "walk away!"
family is the only constant
and they are all
everyone would ever need

as we get older we find that friends build and don't knock down. it becomes easier to walk away when we realize that another person's energy is detrimental to our own. and if we aren't learning and growing then we are already lost, aren't we?

wonderful work

Wow! I love the truth you state in your poem. Speechless. Great work.
