March On

A Poem by Gastroc.
"

cb. may change...

"

well they said
there are plenty more
fish in the sea
really?
[this
genetically
engineered
petry
dish]
pole down;
i'll fish!
so i'll pick one
and spit it back
walk away and
BAM
BAM
BOOM
(batman)
out of the blue
(sky?
sea?)
a high five
in a dive
let's gawk at
preserved penises
and
suicide skulls
and baby
now i know
you're the one
you had me at a

mütter
but i've been used to
the other
kind of
fella
who'd prefer my mouth to their
dick
rather than their
lips
you, however,
redefined
respect
but i'll keep
the receipt
back pocket

just in case
and enjoy
the
void
in ninety days

Oh well done! The imagery is fantastic and it's creatively evocative. I love the metaphors you use, especially the extended one that deals with fishing. I also really like the stream-of-consciousness feel: "BAM BAM BOOM" goes directly to Batman (which is what my first thought was, too), and that makes the work interesting to read, especially because the reader never quite knows where you'll go next. The emotion, too, is powerful - congratulations on successfully executing a poem of this nature that isn't entirely sad but rather quite self-secure. You rock!
