Prison Or The Prisoner

Prison Or The Prisoner

A Poem by Gary McDonald

Prison... Only allowing few entry

towering walls to hide your depth

always wary of potential escapes

showers home to the excuses for nightmares

inspections upon a visitor’s arrival.

Enclosed... Your true purpose an empty secret.

Prisoner... Guilt determined by a majority

sentenced to a life of seclusion, isolation

praying that you never need clean yourself

mixed emotion at the sight of loved ones

dreaming of escape to the mundane days of others.

Trapped... Dead before your death.

Am I the prison... or the prisoner?

Such a unique analogy of life as a prison or prisoner. Once hurt, we often erect walls around our hearts too high for others to scale them. So we become both the prison and the prisoner as our hearts are trapped inside, slowly dying from the self-imposed isolation. A very thought provoking piece. Well done.

But why your last for a while? Hope you don't leave us waiting too long for your next posting.

Why your last for a while? I don't think you should do that to us...

When we are alone we wander if we failed love or love failed us... a very interesting way to express that thinking.
